"Plan ahead, Nevada"

So, the radio station around here have been running this new PSA from the Nevada Division of Emergency Management. It's geared toward making sure that Nevadans are prepared for any potential terrorist incident. I guess that kinda makes sense, since LV is prime ground for an incident and Carson City IS the state capital.

What I don't get is their reliance upon the old 'have some plastic and duct tape handy' strategy. They're advocating hiding in a small room while taping heavy plastic over the doors, windows, switches, fixtures, vents, etc. I guess it would be in an effort to stop a bio/chemical attack.

I'm not a weapons or chemical expert, but this seems odd to me. After all, even if you could lock down your hiding place to a degree that you'd be safe from attack, wouldn't you also be inhibiting the air transfer and inducing asphyxiation?!?

This makes no sense. Except it's coming from the state government, so I guess it makes perfect sense in its ridiculosity.

I thought the federal government said something like this shortly after the 9/11 attacks (perhaps during the anthrax scare?) and had to hastily issue a retraction when they realized people were going to suffocate themselves. I don't remember too well, but I'm pretty sure something like this has already come up in the past and been discredited.

How can you not listen to 105.7? Not only is it Classic Rock, but it's also one of the few (only?) stations that plays music in the morning commute and not some gawd offal 'wacky FM DJ' morning show (I'm thinking of you, Rob Arnie and Dawn!).

Actually, I do (rarely) listen to 105.7, but usually it's NPR, 92.9 or 97.3 on the way to work.

And yes, morning shows blow goats.

Southern nevada, sitting in a closed room with no AC in the summer, I'd give you hours, not days.

In northern nevada, where this is, you're fine. It peaks at about 103 here. Most likely, the high 90s
