I'm running in to an interesting issue, which I could use some feedback on. It's been several years since I've built a desktop PC, as I've pretty much moved to laptops.
I'm helping someone build a gaming PC and am finding that pretty much all mid tower cases now have the power supply at the bottom, with the fan facing down. While I understand why manufacturers have moved to this design, it causes a challenge for the type of surface the system is placed on.
In my friend's situation, the system would be placed on the floor which is carpeted. Is there anything I can do in this situation, like install the PS upside-down so the fan is facing up rather than down? This system will likely be running a GTX 780, so I want to be careful with airflow. "Buy a table" isn't a valid response here. If I can't do anything reliable with these new cases, he'll likely just try to buy an older case with the PS on top.
