I'm shopping for engagement rings and the only two online places I've found that seem like quality outfits are BlueNile and Mondera (I'm not looking at Tiffany's as they are way overpriced IMHO).

Are there any other good places online to get rings at?

I'm not certain I'll be buying it online as I've gotten some good local/not so local contacts in the area...but I want to price out all of my options.

Thanks.

Rings are those things you have to see to know they are good. You can see just the ratings frmo a piece of paper but you never know what you get until it arrives. I'd never buy something like that online. Build up a rapport with a local jeweler (not a chain) and they will treat you like royalty. I got my wife's ring at a local place and now every time we go in there we chat with them, get everything cleaned up and maintained for free, etc. Great place.

ALSO, REMEMBER, SIZE IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS THE OTHER FACTORS. A small but high quality diamond will look better than a big, poor quality stone. F color gives you a good bang for your buck because it's right on the edge of colorless/not colorless (on the colorless side). VS1 is good, VVS1 and 2 are probably overkill. And read up on the cut and how it affects the reflectiveness of the diamond and pick a good cut.

Depends on what you are looking for. Bluenile is fine for the cookie cutter stuff if that is what you are in to. It appeals to the internet savvy consumer base because they give you all that information up front making the deal searcher feel like they got a great deal.

Something like fotiny.com has examples of taking things to the "next level". My wife is in the jewelry business and always says there is no getting around it, you get what you pay for. She may be able to help you if you aren't going to go the bluenile-type route. PM and I'll pass it along.

Some people would describe the stuff at fotiny.com as... umm... ugly, gaudy, etc. I would be one of those people. And you don't have to buy the setting at Blue Nile. You buy the diamond - for much less than you'd pay elsewhere - and buy whatever setting you want. You could even have a setting custom-made. Diamonds are a commodity, you don't "get what you pay for" if you overpay. And many people overpay.

I just got a diamond from Adiamor.com and I'm going to get the setting locally. Diamonds are standard anywhere (if they're certified by GIA or others), so you don't need to see them. I want to see the setting before buying it.

blue nile.. I got my fiances ring from there. Just a simple half carat solitaire diamond with a radiant cut that she absolutely adores.

Just remember to research and actually go look at rings in the stores. This way you can see the difference in diamond rings and at how ridiculous jewlry store prices are.

That fotiny site looks interesting but the smallest diamond is .9 carats. That would have dwarfed my fiances fingers.
