Places that people could smoke but now cant.

i was born in 1968 and as a small kid in the 70's i remember people smoking in the movie theaters and while shopping in the grocery store. i remember kicking cig butts that people threw down in the grocery store and snuffed out with their shoe. Anybody else remember that? or airplanes that was the worst. there was always some asshole behind you who blew the smoke over the seat into your face.

Smoking has been banned in a lot of communities and in Colorado and the end of this week a state wide smoking ban will be enacted.

When I go to places like last month I was in Indiana I was surprised to smell smoke in restaurants. It?s just something I am not used to anymore.

Well at least society is progressing in some areas, I say good riddance.

Edit

Refering to the banning of it in theatres, malls, shops, etc.

Flying from California to anywhere in Europe is always a shock to my lungs
I step into the terminal - and it's like I'm sucker-punched, there's so much smoke floating

IMO, it's okay when private institutions ban smoking themselves or when the gov't bans it in gov't buildings, but the gov't telling citizens what they can or can't allow in their own business is wrong.

<---not a smoker.

Statewide smoking ban goes into effect for Arkansas on July 12th. Some of it I agree with, some of it I do not.

Until about two months ago, the Clock Tower Inn, a convention center and hotel allowed anybody to smoke inside the building anywhere. It was so weird to see people walking past you with a lit cigarette. Gotta love Rockford.

I just got back from Las Vegas this last weekend and was hit with the same feeling while I was there. It seemed so odd to be walking past people smoking inside the hotels.

i remember smoking at work, in the building, and at fast food restaurants... the ashtrays at mcdonalds had the golden arches stamped into them, lol.

Agreed. On the other hand, it's really nice to go to a bar in certain cities in my area and not have to smell the stink sticks.

how about sports venues

hehe yea those too, like going to bronco games even though it was outside you always got a face full of somebodys exhaled smoke. and going to nuggets bb games were really bad, the top of the arena was nothing but a huge cloud of smoke.

the astrodome in houston during the rodeo was simply discusting.

I don't think there was anywhere a person couldn't smoke back in the day.

I think people should be forced to do that foulness in private. I don't even like smelling the smoke of someone standing outside of a building... I still have to smell it! :|

I remember one time I was in the hospital after having lung surgergy and some guy came to visit his daughter who was in the same room with me, and the dude lit up right then and there.

Smoking is a disgusting habit. I don't want to breath that crap, so I say go kill yourself somewhere else.

Ehh, I'll agree to that, what I meant by my previous comment and I should probably re-edit, is that I am glad that it is banned in places like the theatre, mall, stores, etc. State wide ban shouldn't be enacted imo for the sole purpose of keeping smokers from doing it anywhere but in the privacy of their own homes, but they probably have other reasons for enacting the ban.

I think of it the other way. Look at all the places I can now go without hacking up a lung. You can still smoke if you want in specific areas - we didn't outlaw smoking so you really don't lose much of anything. But I gain so much.

I agree 100%.. Govt is overstepping their boundaries.

My high school also had a smoking area, grad in 86. I remember the vending machines all over the place, 3 quarters and anyone could buy a pack.
