Need some advice on which device should serve as router and which should be the a WAP. The modem is located in the basement and currently I'm using a Netgear R7000 as the router and an Asus N12 (N300 device) as a WAP on the 2nd floor. The N12 is connected via a MoCA (no cable TV in the house so it's the only signal over the coax).
I'm running some cryptocoin mining rigs downstairs right next to the router and both are open cases. I suspect that the mining rigs are causing a lot of "electrical noise" and thus degrading the wifi signal from the basement.
I purchased a D-Link DIR-890L to try and help the issue with more 5Ghz channels for my AC devices. My original plan was to put the D-Link downstairs and the R7000 on the 2nd to replace the N12.
Does that seem like the smartest placement of the two devices or would I be better served putting the D-Link upstairs and keeping the R7000 as the router?
