UPDATE: Well as some of you know I've got Infinity P162 bookshelf speakers in tandem with a PS12 sub.

I am thinking of completing my set with P362's and a the C350.
However as with the original setup I've got issues with where to set up floor standing speakers.

To Familiarize yourself with my current setup:

Current Setup 1
Current Setup 2
Current Setup 3
Current Setup 4

Top view made in AutoCAD. As you can see there isn't a great deal of possible placements
Current Setup ACAD

The Proposed setup:

Move my armoire closer to closet door (top left) and place the P362's on each side of the room directly in line with my seating position pointed at my ears.

The rears can go on my night stands or one on a small shelf to keep symmetry. Another option would be mounting them to the roof angled downwards but they are heavy and I won't be fond of drilling holes into my speaker back (they don't have mounting brackets already built in because of the weight compared to the P152 P142).

Proposed Setup ACAD

Would this be a bad idea? Any other suggestions?

That seems excessively expensive to me. For $300 (I'm assuming that the CAD is still pretty close in parity to USD) you are approaching an entirely different range of speakers. At $150 a pair they are a steal. For $300 I'm not quite feeling the love.

The dollar is very close to parity

I definatley agree, but no company ships to Canada unfortunately. Well JR and FRY do but the price is intense.

Any stores down in Buffalo that I could check out?

Infinity's Floor Standing are around 500 up here (bestbuy.ca)

I think $300 opens the door a lot more for speakers. You should be able to find something better than the R50's in Canada or shipped to Canada.

They are bookshelf speakers, but the two that are always recommended are Paradigm Atom and PSB Alpha (they are both Canadian companies, too)

Audio Engine A5 may have bigger bass than their more audiophile brethren above and are slightly above your listed budget.

Athena's look nice.

Wouldn't a floor stander normally hit lower bass than the bookshelfs mentioned above.

Most commonly yes. The added cabinet volume allows for more bass reflex. But it's still not going to be anything earth moving at this price range. At best you are looking at 6" mid range or small woofers and they simply can't move air like a bigger dedicated woofer or subwoofer can.

Well since my old speakers are bi-amped 6 ohm, and the reciever I am using can do 6ohm 120w or 100w. I am thinking of using them as "rears" hooking only the subwoofers

This is if the bass is really lacking I might try it out

"Wouldn't a floor stander normally hit lower bass than the bookshelfs mentioned above."

If both extremes are rolled off evenly, bookshelf speakers can give a convincing perception of taut, solid bass.

They won't have the visceral impact of speakers that can truly go down to 20 - 30 hz or below, but the tonal balance can be convincing and satisfying nontheless. And you don't get problems with major room resonance either (I've read that musicians can't stand some speakers with extended bass response, because excited room resonances destroy musical timing for them).

Paradigms are some of the best value speakers out there AFTER we get them shipped into the US. If you get an even better deal than normal up there in Canada, then you really owe it to yourself to try them out. The are certainly among the best (if not the best) speakers in that range

Look at Infinity Beta 40/50. They are closing them out at half the MSRP. Vanns had some in stock a week or two ago. I own the 40 and I am very pleased.

Could get P362's for same price as Beta 40. I think P362 replaced Beta 50?

I can get JBL Balboa set for 650 + 83$ shipping.

JBL 3way floor standing $300
JBL 2way bookshelf $100
JBL center $100
JBL 10" sub $150 (heard OK reviews on the sub)

I can buy the centre in store and avoid shipping. The rest require shipping. I could just buy center/bookshelf/floor and find a better sub

Another option would be the Onkyo HTIB 7.1 system which comes with reciever for 500$

But I don't know how much shipping is for that (which can make or break it)

I've still got plenty of options.

JBL Venue I might be able to get from Fry's (have to check shipping) since they are allowed to ship those to Canada.

JBL Balboa is similarly based though so depending on price I could just buy it here instead.

I found a place to get JBL SUB12 for $250 USD shipped.

Another option is check locally for the Atom as reccomended. From reviews it seems like a very good speaker (and affordable).

What Sub should I look at to go with the Atom's or JBL? Sub12 is currently in the crosshairs
