Place to buy Alternator bearings?

Have a 01 Ford Focus with Zetec engine and the alternator is making a grinding noise when cold. I am thinking its maybe the bearings gone/going bad. I hate to give $175 for a rebuilt alternator when I can just buy some bearings for it.

Does anyone know of a reliable website that sells them and which I need exactly?

Check roackauto.com

Also call advance/AZ as they used to keep bearings in stock. Mind you that was when GM had 1-2 Alts, Ford had 1-2Alts, etc... for their whole line up.

Google for your parts, you have a 90% chance of not finding them locally....

Most chain parts stores are worthless any more. Check your local one, and check you local alt/starter shop.

Look in your local Yellow pages under Automotive, alternator & starter rebuilding / rebuilders .. they will have what you need. It would also be easier to take it in to them to do the overhaul. It is not just the bearings and they are hard for a DIYer to change themselves. They are pressed on to the armature and pressed in to the end housings. You will also need new brushes and the regulator / diodes need to be checked or replaced to ensure a long life after the rebuild.

Since I don't know exactly where in Kentucky you are, these are some search results.

I agree with the rebuilder suggestion. We have a local alternator and starter shop here and those guys are great and much cheaper.

I replaced one on my 02 Focus with a Zetec engine last year. What a PITA to replace, it's at the back of the engine on the passenger side. You will have to take several parts out to get it out, and even then it will only come out when rotated a certain way.
Good luck.
