The governor of Louisiana has thrown his support behind Rick Perry, once again demonstrating how thoroughly he has sold his soul for political success.

Unlike Perry and other idiots such as Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum, Piyush Jindal is clearly an extremely intelligent individual. His desire to climb the political ladder has led him to embrace the most disgusting, anti-intellectual elements of modern American conservative extremism though. He came from a Hindu family but converted to Christianity, has kissed up to creationists and takes a hardcore fundie line on issues like abortion & gay marriage. It's sadly reminiscent of how George Wallace embraced a hateful, racist agenda to further his own career even though his private opinions on race were fairly progressive by the standards of where he came from.

This further reinforces my belief that Jon Huntsman and Gary Johnson (both of whom I would vote for over Obama) are the only sane voices in the GOP today, and as a result they're totally marginalized and will go nowhere in the Republican primary.

I like Jindal a lot, he seems like a very intelligent guy. Too bad he's supporting Perry.

He's clearly very bright, but he's also shown that he'll roll over for the ignorant Bible-thumpers in Louisiana to get ahead. It's disgusting.

Sounds pretty Indian to me.

Perry supported Gore over Bush and was a long time Democrat if I remember correctly. Seems to me like he should have some strong support among moderates.

Yeah because Obama and his band of merry morons were too busy tying the hands of Gov's like Jindal during the crisis to actually fix the issue. Hell, Obama was too busy to even pick up the phone to call BP's CEO.. but he certainly wasn't too busy to tell local people they couldn't protect themselves without fear of being fined by the EPA.

Jindal could have sat around with his thumb up his ass and shown more leadership than Obama did on the issue. The Obama regime did everything in their power to keep people like Jindal from trying to resolve the problem. The regime couldn't allow the crisis to go to waste by allowing people to solve the problem..

Probably still better than Obama's plan of going to play golf? At least the Gov showed some interest in trying to protect his state. Obama was more interested in playing the crisis for everything it was worth.

He could have saved $360 million if he went golfing with Obama...

There's nothing anti-intellectual about opposing gay marriage or especially abortion. He, like most republicans, probably doesn't prioritize silly things like creationism that high on "what will it take to disqualify this person from getting my vote" ladder.

I'm disgusted that you compare opposing abortion with supporting racism.

I have one problem with Rick Perry, and that is that he is an ardent creationist. I'd vote for him, or anybody else, over any candidate who's stated belief is that killing one's own offspring is a humane and acceptable way to escape an unwanted pregnancy. And that means not Obama, and not the majority of democrats. To the extent that candidates voice their opposition to Roe v. Wade sufficiently, they have my vote. Incidentally, that's why I wish Ron Paul would get nominated.

Jindal and Condy Rice have much in common. Highly intelligent in MOST ways but both were more than willing to prostitute themselves to get where they wanted to go, which, of course, is a common trait attributable to many politicians of far less intellect, ex- Democrat Perry being a perfect example.

Lol, you do realize that it was Federally leased land the spill occurred on don't you? And since it was Federal land the Coast Guard (supposedly) had full authority and actually hindered Louisiana's efforts at fighting the spill.

What exactly, in your opinion, should he have done?

So your vote is based upon a viewpoint that is completely irrelevant concerning what they can actually do once they are elected?

And Jindal did sign a sort of controversial piece of legislation that opens the door for creationism to be taught in public schools (ironically my daughters Catholic school does not teach that in science class).

Just to be clear, ignoring science and supporting the teaching of religion in science class is a non-issue to you but abortion, something that will not be changed regardless of which politician is elected, is a deciding factor???? Foe real dawg?

BTW, I really like Jindal but I have the same issues with him that some have pointed out in this thread. Even with those issues he is probably one of the best Governors in Louisiana's history (so far, plenty of time for him to fuck that up with his reelection already in the bag).

If he were so smart he wouldn't be the governor of Louisiana, the most politically corrupt and one of the all around worst 3 states in the country.
