Pixel Shader

no

btw how old is your video card? Pixel shaders came out in 2001 with the GF3. May be time to do an upgrade 😉

I have a one-year-old laptop.

I also have a 3.06(overclocked to 3.4)gHz PC, but I gave it to my mom to use after I got my laptop.

Maybe (similar to how ppl tricked Far Cry, etc., to think it was running on an ATI instead of an NV card, and vice versa), but why? You're probably going to get errors when running it if it tries to do something your card can't.

I don't know how to change the card name a program sees, BTW, but maybe someone else who checks in this thread will.

But, yeah, a GF3 or similar card has got to be $20 or less by now.

Edit: Ah, a laptop. No luck there in terms of upgrading one with an IGP. What IGP (integrated graphics processor) do you have and what game are you trying to trick?

Do you have a link for that?

Pixels shaders are a feature of the video card hardware, and if your card doesnt have them, there's no way to emulate them on the cpu. Also, I doubt there's a way to trick the game into thinking you have PS because:

1) Any half-decent programmer will check the capability of the video card before using any features than require that capability, and

2) The game will most likely crash or freeze if it tries to use a pixel shader when the video card doesnt have any.

Sorry, no. It may be indeed be 3D Analyze. Maybe Google for 3D Analyze and Far Cry to see if a forum thread pops up? I think I read about it at Beyond3D, if that helps (add it in the query).
