Could it be the onscreen keys that's making an illusion? I'm curious as to if it really is asymmetrical.
I think the on screen nav buttons is the reason why they do it, and I think that originally came from Moto back when they owned them. They would make the top bezel bigger than the smaller one, and "even" it out by making the bottom bezel + nav bar just about equal to the top bezel. It was dumb then and never looked good, I don't know why Google has stuck with it. Thing is, the slightly smaller bottom bezel plus nav bar is bigger than the top bezel, so I don't understand why they did it.

I do think it's the on screen keys that make it appear as if it has a bigger bezel. If you ignore that, the physical bezels seem fine. I actually didn't notice until it was mentioned that the top one was bigger. There is also the camera on the top that may make it seem that way.

Here are some pics of the burn in on my roommates phone. The second photo has mine on the left and his on the right. You can barely tell for mine but I do notice it slightly in person. For example phone screen was off all night..first thing I did was check with a grey background and it's noticeable but as im using the phone through the day I don't notice it as much.

Were there older phones that have the same shift in color at different viewing angles? Because I've never heard of any mobile phone having a shift in color prior to this. The only shift in color I've heard of is on TN panels on monitors. Also, how can there be burn-ins on a phone that is barely a week old? That is just horrible quality control.
It really shouldn't have problems like this being a flagship and the manufacturers being google. I hope they actually address hardware issues like these in the next Pixel and not only concentrate on software, which, don't get me wrong is amazing right now, but hardware issues like these shouldn't crop up on phones costing that much.

Older OLEDs definitely had color shift at different angles, I remember having it on my older Galaxy phones. It was a little annoying but honestly didn't really bother me much in day to day use. Screen burn in is unfortunately a side effect of them pairing with LG, like other people said their OLED screens seem to be at the level Samsung's were at a few years ago. I'm not sure what they can do QC-wise to fix it, it really should have been something they looked for in development.

People on Reddit that have sent them back for replacement have said they received newer phones with more up to date manufacture dates. So those seem to be alright. Mine was manufactured Sept 29th.

I see it in the picture and even if it were that faint in real life itd still probably annoy me, the fact it's worse in person I'm sure id have returned it.

Yeah I know but as long as it doesn't get worse maybe some people would deal with it. Mine doesn't seem to have it but I can kind of tell in person for my phone. Don't think I will RMA mine because I can't get a good picture of it to prove to google.

Yeah I can see it on your friends phone but not yours, hopefully you can capture it so you can RMA it. I hope the newer OLED's are less prone to burn in, since my phone isn't shipping for another 3 weeks or so hopefully I get one with a newer screen with less problems but we'll see.

One interesting thing that's come out of this is people realizing their phones have had burn in for the past year or so. I saw quite a few comments in stories about this where people check the phone they've had and suddenly notice it has burn in. I bet if I checked my GF's old S6 it probably has burn in, I was pretty careful about it on my XL so I don't have any that I can see.

Yeah I was browsing Reddit and there were people checking their original pixels who also claimed to see burn in. My 6p had it too about a year or so in. I'll check the new model that they send him whenever he decides to rma. I may have to do it though as I bought both phones.

I see it on both screens. Not a good sign for longevity of the phones. The nav bar is black, right? That tells me how much the rest of screen has aged in comparison to unused pixels in the nav bar area. I can see the nav bar area appears "whiter" than the rest of the screen (most likely due to aging of blue subpixels in non-nav bar area).

I can see the burn in. That level of burn-in is alright if it were after a year but your friend's phone has as much burn in as my Galaxy S4 did after 1.5 years so that's really a sign of a poor panel from LG.

Hopefully it's really just the initial batch and later panels will be more durable.

Yes nav bar all black except for the home, back and square buttons.

so we are gonna put the XL2 on the spectrophotometer tomorrow against the S8+ and S7?,
i can add other phones if we have them available. LMK what you are curious to see. We likely have some essentials that arent broken - prob some iphone 7s/8s and maybe some LG and HTC phones around

we will measure Red, Yellow, Cyan, White and black levels, im thinking 0% 50% and max brightness

Why not compare them at the same absolute brightness? At a reasonable APL level (e.g. 50%).

TLDR; 2 year warranty for all Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL's

Also adding high saturation color mode.

This article adds a little more info - https://www.androidcentral.com/google-address-pixel-2-xl-screen-issues-set-software-changes

Having the XL for a week. I love the phone. It's smooth as butter. The finger print sensor is super fast and the camera is great. But I used the test in this article to discover I have the burn in issue too - https://www.androidcentral.com/google-pixel-2-xl-screen-burn

Looks like the same as the photos that sze5003 posted. I see a faint nav bar with the icons but it's the only time I notice it. I don't notice it in real use. I will monitor it and if it gets worse, I'll RMA it after Google releases their software updates to rectify these issues.

My roommate contacted google and they asked him for photos of burn in. They said they sent that to their next level support engineers to review and diagnose. They will call him back tonite to get back to him. They did say that because he's still in warranty that he does have an option to get a replacement.
