That's sad. I'll bet Disney is waving some FAT money in front of Pixar. Everyone of their movies released under Disney has done extremely well. Disney could easily afford to give Pixar as much $$ as Pixar wants if it means keeping them on.

I heard they were thinking about doing their own distribution separate from Disney... was on the news a while back.

Yeah, I doubt they would move away from movies entirely, especially w/o having really done anything else yet. It's just their relationship with Disney that's in question.

Pixar is excited to have their contract up with Disney. There are so many areas of CG to explore that they can't touch because Disney is family oriented.

A few years from now, expect some awesome action movies from Pixar.

Don't think that Pixar is gonna go out of business anytime soon or anything. Steve Jobs originally held the rights to pixar and sold them to Disney for like, 50 grand or something low like that. Now they are worth just over a billion I think. Considering the whole MacIntosh thing, Steve Jobs is the worst businessman in perhaps the dumbest businessman in the world. ;)

What are you talking about? Pixar is a publicly owned corporation, no one "holds the rights to it", and even if someone did, Jobs is still the CEO.

And are you saying that Apple is a failure of a company or something?

I think he's refering to the fact that Pixar is ditching Apple in favor of Windows machines.

Pixar had a small percentage like that with Toy Story. Their first contract with disney was a 3 movie, low percentage like that, deal. After Toy Story, Pixar renegotiated the deal with Disney. The deal then became a 5 movie 50% deal.

They should both stick together. One of the main reasons Pixars movies do so well is because it carries the Disney name. Not only that but Disney also does most of the marketing. As long as they stay with a 50/50 contract they should continue to work together. They both benefit from each others names.

Love every single Pixar movie.

The fact that you refer to them as Pixar films and not Disney films is good circumstantial evidence that Pixar has the upper hand in terms of negotiation. Since they're now a recognizable (and popular brand), they could really go anywhere with sufficiently marketing and distribution capacity and still make a killing. I'm guessing that Sony or Dreamworks wouldn't balk at trying to undercut Disney on the revenue split just to get a piece of that pie.

Right now, with Finding Nemo and the Incredibles, Disney gets 50%. Pixar is trying to get 100% minus distribution costs. And at that point they will be releasing a movie per year.

They're NOT moving away from movies.

Pixar was started by George Lucas and sold to Steve Jobs for $10 Million. The company went public a few years ago and Jobs is now the CEO.

pixar movies are good. i think they've gotten their own recognition by now and dont really need disney to make a killing. disney on the other hand, might need them
