thanks mikki. it's at 47 under load. so i guess i'm alright.

i've been using all 3 power plugs, on a hunch that my ps sucks.

maybe in a week or two this thing will do 3ghz miraculously? 🙂 wishful thinking. . .
 
There's no denying that the 1.8A does miracles; with a ThermalRight AX 478 and 80mm Smart Fan, a slot cooler, and Corsair XMS 3000 Memory, my CPU is BLOCK STABLE @155 MHz FSB, 1.69 vCORE, idle temps of 35C and full load temps of 47C.

Come on Intel.....A 1 GHZ OVERCLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a time when the 1.6a was the sweetheart...My 1.6a does 1.136ghz oc with 1.71v...does 1.1ghz with 1.69v...

My 1.8@ I had back about 2 months ago did 828mhz oc with 1.71v...What is the specs on your chip???
 
I 've got a problem with heat I think is limiting my oc. I have a 1.8a on an abit bg7. I can get 2.4b speeds stable with stock cooling but high temps that cause lock ups. It will run prime95, 3dmark2001, and any Sandra2002 test, but when I run a few simulator games, falcon 4.0, Nascar 2002 (guess the really use cpu cycles) it really heats up and normally locks up. After reboot I see the cpu temp around 60'C. ARound there it dies. What do you guys suggest? I've been reading your posts for a while and I gather a new heatsink would be appropriate. I found one on new egg for around 30$ Thermalright AX-7 no fan. Is that a good HS? It's copper, the plate anyway. can i use my stock fan with it and would I want to? SHould I spend more or less money? I need some advice from the guys who know. One more thing, I've got case fans gallor, six total 2 front, 2 back, 2 in the ps and those temps stay pretty low, so no worries they mate!

I'm also using a 1.8A with an abit bg7, along with a alpha pal 8942 heatsink and a ys-tech variable speed fan. This combo at SVC runs around $38. With this combo, I can hit 2.8Ghz using a 156 FSB and bumping voltage up 15%. The winbond monitor program, however, tells me Vcore is 1.68 idle and 1.65 under load.

Temps are reading 48C idle and around 60C under load. If you take a look at the official BG7 thread in the Motherboards forum, people tend to agree that the bg7 is reporting higher than actual CPU temps, around 8-10 degrees too high. Using the stock HSF, I was getting readings up to 66C under load at 2.7Ghz. Hope that helps.

 
I agree...usually the P4 will throttle with high temperature...no freezing or lock-up but sluggish....

It is either power supply related or is in conjunction with when the gpu of the vid card has to start cruching 3d scenes...

1) try upping vcore a notch or back off of ocing....

2) what is your power supply...

3) could be driver related or vid card alone related...


Usually prime running for at least one hour should stress the cpu to high temps and find this thermal weakness...When running games the gpu can put out intense heat in the case that may rasie cpu temps a few degrees, but I feel it is either the vid card or power realted...


What is the state of case cooling???


I would get an alpha 8942 and ystech fan and see if that gets the temps down in the low to mid 50's and you should have no concerns about heat with the cpu...
 
First Off thanks for you replies.
My P/S is an HEC 350watt p4
My video card is a pny Geforce 4400, I've tried to test it with and without it overclock also, but same result. On my old system, 1800xp amd, and Gigabyte kt333 board, I could get the V-card to 300 core and 610 mem with no problem.
What should I use to check for "true" temps? I'm using winbond right now, it came with the board and shows the same temps as the bios.
As I said before my case, I think, has plenty of fans and the system temp stays pretty low, right know it's messuring 25c.
I've run prime for about 9hrs. two different times with no problems with my first oc to 2.4@133 fsb. No real heat issuses and it was stable.
You think maybe video related? Maybe p/s, you said something about drivers also, what did yo mean. I'm willing to try anything, I've had the voltage up +15%. At stock the voltage read be winbond is 1.47 idle, dunno if that's right. It gets up to about 1.67 @+15% idle, It's seems as thought the bg7 is undervolting maybe or is this normal?

I noticed a few people are running the Asus P4B533(E) MB with FSB/MEM = 3/4. All the reviews I've seen says the board can't do that above 133 MHz FSB...can someone who does please tell me how as I'm thinking of getting me one of theese boards.
 
thx for the fast reply...does that mean you have to run the board with jumperfree mode disabled to get 3/4 divider above 133 MHz FSB?
 
i'm using it in jumperfree mode.

if you plan on overclocking, you might want to consider the non -E version. only reason i got the -E version was for the raid. had a 3com nic already but the onboard one's not bad.
 
Sorry for the vague reply,juicyfruit is right use jumperfree mode.Go in bios and set ratio to 1:1 at 133FSB and save and exit.Shut down the PC after you exit the bios.Go in and flip only the "one" switch,number 6 on.All the rest should be on the off position.There are 2 switch boxes on the mobo.You only look at the one with 6 switches and flip only number 6 on,rest off.Boot up and go back into the bios and set your FSB if you desire above 132-133FSB to where you want it.Ok,1:1 will now be 3:4 even though it says 1:1 and 4:3 is now 1:1 ratio.If you need raid,lan and firewire than the E version is for you.If you don't want that stuff just get the P4B533.
 
Thx guys...now I get it.

I might get a P4B533E, a P4 2.26 and a stick of Samsung PC3200 Original to play around with in just a week or two (might have to wait a few weeks longer for that memory though). What do you think of that? I've seen quite a few ppl reaching 160 to 170 FSB with a 2.26.

First thing I do is put some active cooling on the northbridge and get some ramsinks for the mem.
