I dunno, why they always get a bad rep.

Um, hello, do a search on deaths by pitbulls. They attack and kill more people than any other breed of dog. My feelings are, that they should never be owned by anyone who has growing kids. Frankly, I think they should be a banned animal. Anyone who owns one in the presence of kids should have their head examined. The prominent problem with them, is they can just nip you, for once their jaws close on an object, they lock up. That is the only breed, AFAIK that does that.

Its an animal. Animals are unpredictable.

Animals are easy predictable. Men are unpredictable.
Just look, and you will easily see when a dog wants to play, when wants to stay, when to run or when to attack.

i don't think we can jump to the conclusion that the dogs did it based on what little information we have. for all we know, he was killed by a human, and the dogs just happened to get some blood on them.

I don't think many humans would enter in a house with two pitbulls, kill a member of the family and leave unscathed (or in a singe piece)

My dad owns an American Staffordshire Terrier which is pretty close... I can't imagine him doing that though. He just sleeps, eats and craps heh. Love 'em.

Common myth. Pit bulls don't have lockjaw, nor does any other kind of dog.

I cannot understand why anyone would want to own a Pit Bull, let alone several.

I will stick with small harmless dogs thank you. Although my pug thinks she is vicious sometimes. :D

Nope, its a continuation of the pussification of the world. As I type this, my pit's sleeping by me feet. If they're such raving, foaming dogs of hell, why aren't I/my brother/father/mother/ dead? Torn to shreds? Why didn't my rottweiler go bonkers and kill us all? These are terrible dogs!

I got chewed up by a Saint Bernard when I was a kid. I have a couple big scars on my face because of it. I was only five years old when it happened, and it was a result of the owner forcing me to pet the dog in hopes that it'd become accustomed to me and stop barking while I was there playing with her kids. She just wanted to get Cujo to "know me". The dog got away from her and decided he wanted to get to know me a little more intimately.
She could have lost everything she owned over that little incident.
Why would anyone keep a vicious dog? Stupidity is the only answer.

I can understand your take on this, but the fact of the matter is that pit bulls are disproportionally likely to maul and kill. That doesn't mean they are per se dangerous, or that they can't be kept safely, but they are less predictable and, statistically, significantly more dangerous than other breeds. IMO you'd have to have a screw loose to have a pit bull with small children (and a good friend of mine does just this).

not good to do to a Pit :Q

Why doesn't said relative smack that kid upside the head? You NEVER hit animals, EVER. There is absolutely no excuse in my book for it. I hope their pit takes his hand off.

Edit your message much? Heres what you said initially:

because you are an idiot that doesn't know anything about dog psychology. dogs are pack animals, and even viscious ones don't attack members of their pack. and dogs that are prone to snap like wild animals completely change demenor in the presence of strangers. esp when alone. you have personified the animal and don't realize what it really is. owners who have their dogs bite owners always say the same thing... oh he was so loving with us...blah blah blah.

Since we're on the slippery slope towards personal insults already, I'll continue. You're a raging idiot.

Dogs are pack animals, fine. I'm not a dog, yet my pit and rotty haven't attacked me or my family. There's that thing called domestication. Cats are pack animals too, so I guess when I go to my sister's house I should bat her cats out, because they like to bite, pack animals, and are extremely dangerous.

You say dogs change their demeanor when in the prescence of strangers when alone, NO SH|T. If there ever comes a time when someone I don't know is in my house, alone, without my permission, my dogs are going to tear that unlucky SOB apart. It's called protection. (Dogs are territorial, in case you didn't know.) On the other hand, if I'm out walking my dog, NO ONE is allowed to come near us. Again. protection. IF people come into the house, that's a different story, the dogs know I allow them to be in the house, then they'll bring their toys over to play with my guests. Its a sign that the dog accepts you,and can trust you. The people who get bitten, or in the worst case, the children who have gotten bitten unfortunately have never been tought the proper way to approach dogs that they don't know. My father tought me when i was 4, it wasn't rocket science. ALWAYS ask the owner if you can approach the dog. If the owner is walking the dog, let the owner bring the dog to YOU. Pretty simple, eh? Unfortunatey, most people never learn these things, people like you.

Next time, don't edit your response before I get a chance to resond. Makes you look like a coward.

oh shutup idiot. i edited my response LONG before you had a chance to respond because it wasn't the response i wanted. i'm sorry one hours notice wasn't enough for you:p no wait..i'm not. so really sod off. responding to something before a correction and then getting all uppity about it that you didn't notice that it was fixed or changed..thats your f*cking fault. cowardice is editing something after a response. which i didn't do.

go look up how wild animals respond to taming, and cocker spaniels and sudden rage syndrome if you want to find out how breeding influences behavior and aggression. you can certainly breed explosive aggression into an animal.

Cockers and dalmations, both of those breeds are notorious for the bites. I have observed it many many times. Fortunately, they don't do the damage that a pit does.

Time for my 2 cents....

I own a pit bull/boxer mix. I have had her since she was 8 months (now 5 years). She is the sweetest dog in the world....does she play rough - yes...should children play with her - no, because she is aggressive. Most of the time we spend playing is either jogging, catch, or tug-o-war.

Not a person I know would say that she is a threat. However, they would say that she is very hyper when someone arrives at the house (she gets excited to see people), but doesn't jump on them or anything or play rough with them. She knows I'm the only she can do that with.

On the flipside...if I act scared towards someone or they punch me or something...all hell will break lose. Also, she has only growled at 3 people in her life...the weird thing is that they were all gay - I hope it was coincidence... <shrug>

Pics? Ok..here you go:

Here is my good side

I understand why she scares people, but no need to run

Because she just wants to be loved...is that so wrong?

my sister has 2 pitts, one male and 1 female and they act just like yours, they only growl at people with beards, which i found pretty odd, and they bark at anyone who enters the house uninvited, which is good as well, they getr along fine with all other dogs and even cats

yes there is teh threat that they coudl snap at any tim, however any dog could snap and kill you if it really wanted to

I guarantee you that once 2years has passed from this post, 1/2 of the pit bull owners here will have been bitten and a child will have been attacked. That is just out of the small sampling of owners here. The problem with the dog, is that everyone says they are so fun, so loving, so affectionate, etc. So were the ones who killed, then, without warning they snapped. The Fscking dogs are time bombs Nobody really knows if, when or how.
I understand they are cute, lovable and all that. The ones I have met are the same, but I do not trust them.

They probably don't trust you either. So the feeling is mutual and chances are, you'll be the first to go down.

Because you were the kid that wanted a dog growing up but your parents bought you a hampster instead.

Dogs are angry at you and they're coming for you. :)

The bottom line is that everything in unpredictable on one scale or another. The fact that you have chances of being hit by lightning 6 times rather than winning a big state lottery should tell you that. If people are scared of dogs, don't go near them and don't own them. Banning a breed of dog is not the answer.

The majority of serial killers are white males. I would assume the ratio of white serial killers : all serial killers would be very close to pit bull attacks : all dog attacks. So...if we're using this train of thought, let's get those beloved patriot folks banned as well so that we don't have to worry about serial killings.

btw...i don't really think you'll be first to go down...i'll train my dog to attack PETA first.
