One vet says he is a Pit Bull. Another vet says he is a American Bulldog.

What do you say ? I've had him since 2 months old.

Nah, not a mutt. I do know that much.

A guy down the street has a Kennel registered American Bulldog, looks identical to my Dawg. He also says its the American Bulldog.

Although "both" vets guaranteed he isn't mixed with anything.

Maybe try another vet ? Or who could say exactly ?

and when he snaps on a neighborhood dog - everyone will cry that it's the owner, not the breed....

If the vets can't agree on the breed, how are they an authority on whether or not it's a mixed breed? I'd probably go with what the breeder says but, the muzzle doesn't look American Bulldog to me.

The lady that gave him to us, said he was pure Pit. She had 6 pups that she was selling because she said she couldn't afford to get the papers for all of them. But that is what "she" said he was.

Then the guy down the street has a registered ABD, and said that is what he was. So off to the vet we went.

The vet that gave him a checkup and shots said he was a Pit. The 2nd vet was more of a in and out to see what breed he was.

I had an American Bulldog. I had the Johnson breed which looks a little bigger or thicker than that one. I think the scott breed is a smaller more active working dog type. I can't remember since it's been awhile since he has died 🙁 What a great dog he was.

Does it really matter? They all have one thing in common. Every dog on that list loves them some tasty kids.

Pit bulls eat kids? lots of people have pits and kids, pitt's adore their owners like no other breed, if you let your pitt (or other dog) go unsocialized it may well see a kid coming on it's property a threat. They are animal aggressive at times and must be monitored closely.

Both breeds vary so widely that it's difficult to say. There are Johnson and Scott type of American Bulldogs and everything in between.

The American Bulldog is a breed of working dog that was developed in the United States.[citation needed] There are generally considered to be three types of American bulldog: the Bully or Classic type (sometimes called the Johnson type ), the Standard or Performance type (also called the Scott type), and the Hybrid type.[citation needed] The names associated with the Bully and Standard types are those of the breeders who were influential in developing them, John D. Johnson (Bully) and Alan Scott (Standard).

The Scott types tend to be a bit taller and "leggier." He might even have some Staffordshire Terrier in him as well.

In the end, who cares? All that matters is that it's a good dog 🙂

Yep. Pit dogs bred to fight would do so with their owners tugging at their legs and placing their hands by the dogs' mouths in order to separate them so the dog snapping back at the owner was a big no-no. In general, pit bulls are fantastic with kids because they can take rough play. It's usually the little dogs that suck with children.
