What murder charge was he facing? Is the woman's family going to sue him in civil court or anything?

Actually, he was found not guilty of premeditated murder.

There are additional charges he can be found guilty of when the judge continues the reading of the verdict tomorrow. The "lesser" charges include culpable homicide, so he's not exactly free and clear yet.

Could they drag this thing out any longer? He's been on trial for what? 2 years now?

Maybe the judge is just waiting to pull his legs out from under him? :p

Guys, this stuff is not funny and I won't stand for it. I'm going to out on a limb and say a jury might have found differently than this judge...

I thought our legal system really drags things out (and it does). Guess South Africa is just as bad (although if one is poor and unknown they'd most likely move things along more quickly).

I never thought he killed her on purpose.

He over-reacted, and it got his girlfriend killed.

He's culpable for his over-reaction though.

Seems some sort of 'negligence' will be found to blame. I'm not certain he'll do time. He may be found to have suffered enough, considering the courts are saying he certainly didn't want her to die.

I found all his sobbing/crying to be authentic.

I lost a gf who was killed, and I sobbed manically for weeks. Had I felt to be at fault, while everyone was accusing me of murder, I'd probably have totally lost my shit.

Yeah, usually when burglers come into the house they go to the bathroom. Bullshit.
Exactly, you never shoot at a target without identifying who/what it is. He surely wasn't thinking clearly and neglected to check/make sure that his girlfriend was still in the bed sound asleep inside their supposedly locked and secure bedroom. :sneaky:

He will never walk away from this.

I wonder what he'll do for work? He'll never be able to get his foot in the door at a company. Guess he'll just have to boot strap it. If this hadn't happened he would have been a shoe in for an analyst position at NBC or something.

Making retarded jokes about a double-amputee is easy (and cheap), but I find grabbing a gun and shooting one's girlfriend to death during an argument, and yet not being found guilty of premeditated murder, fvcking hilarious.

Ummmm.....no. The trial started March 3, 2014, so not quite 2 years.

He was found guilty of culpable homicide today. The sentence for a culpable homicide conviction is at the judge's discretion, and it can range from a suspended sentence and a fine to up to 15 years in prison. The judge will give sentence at a later date.

Pistorius was also found guilty of one weapons charge from an earlier date.....guilty of unlawfully firing a gun in a public place when a friend's pistol he was handling discharged under a table in a restaurant in Johannesburg in early 2013 — weeks before Steenkamp's killing.
