i have ZERO respect for the PISTONS, BEN WALLACE, and all their pussy ass fans.

:disgust:

What did the Pistons or Ben Wallace do? Wallace felt like Artest was taking liberites with him and how he fouled him. He was just standing up for himself.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the fans and Artest/Jackson.

And do you see everyone instigate a riot when they are flagrantly fouled? hell no.

Flagrant fouls are a part of the game dude. Not a reason to get all pissy and pummle players with beer and beer bottles. Wallace is a "professional" boo fricken whoo.

The fans were throwing sh!t at players and coaches not even involved....asshats. you can't deny that.

Sure, flagrant fouls are a part of the game. Wallace took exception with how he was fouled and pushed Artest. That was all Wallace was guilty of.

And I agree that the fans were completely out of line. But that doesn't give an NBA player the right to climb into the stands and start throwing punches.

Assualt and battery...sure pushes the envelope doesn't it.

no nba player should ever have to deal with physical UNPROVOKED attacks from fans. DESPICABLE, completely.

Having water/beer thrown at a multi-millionaire is a physical attack?
There were a few instances of fans just pounding away at Artest and Freddie Jones in the face FROM BEHIND. I would call that an unprovoked physical attack.

Unprovoked by the fact that they weren't fighting with THOSE particular fans.

HOW CAN THIS NOT BE ARTEST'S FAULT? He ran up into the stands to knock out a spectator! How stupid can you be? I don't care what he did--throwing a drink on you doesn't hurt you at all. If you're that hotheaded that you'd rather be suspended for probably a month or more, have charges pressed on you, probably have to give the fans an expensive settlement, and disgrace your team and the league than just let a drink from an obnoxious fan go, then you're a fvcking idiot.

Same goes for Jackson and O'Neal. The Pacers are gutted for the next month.

so you are ok with people throwing stuff at you?

If these MILLIONAIRES do not have enough brainpower to realize that they can go to prison for assaulting someone with their fists then please get them away from the fans.
the thing is, they don't. Whens the last time a sports player went to jail for a game-related incident.

READ:

battery
n. the actual intentional striking of someone, with intent to harm, or in a "rude and insolent manner" even if the injury is slight. Negligent or careless unintentional contact is not battery no matter how great the harm. Battery is a crime and also the basis for a lawsuit as a civil wrong if there is damage. It is often coupled with "assault" (which does not require actual touching) in "assault and battery."

This is WHY the police have levels of assault they can charge someone with

2
3
4

Exactly. Throwing a beer and punching someone in the face isn't the same.

What part came first? I honestly do not know...

Was it

Players attacked fans with their fists or the other way around?

Artest rushed the stands and pounded on him. But as he was getting pulled away, a fan from right behind him has the bright idea to punch him in the face a couple of time. Same thing happened to his teammate, Freddie Jones, who was just standing there watching the whole thing. After that, all hell broke loose

Thank you... so Artest is the first person who made personal physical contact between fans and players 🙁

Vernon Maxwell struck a fan for taunting him about 8 years ago or so. He got 10 or 15 games and IIRC he was cut by the Rockets as soon his suspension was up and he was never the same player again. It was where he cemented his nickname, "Mad Max."

Artest is an idiot

Now Detroit will have a black eye.
How about OMG, you're an idiot?

If I was Artest, I'd beat that fan too. Wallace over reacted, CLEARLY. They weren't even going to call a flagrant on that foul. The fans had no right to throw their drinks at the players. Fights break out on the floor all the time. How many times do you see the fans throwing drinks at the players? NOT OFTEN!

If you are in favor of professional athletes punching out fans for throwing beer, then seriously think about a remedial course in growing up.

Listen, I am not condoning the way the fans in Detroit acted tonight.

But at the same time, as a professional athlete you can't act like this. You can't. You can't climb into the stands and fight with fans.

I never said I was OK with it. I said it doesn't come close to warranting battery from a 6'7" 240 pound paid performing professional to leave the field of play and attack a fan.

yeah... pretty much, there is no innocent party here.

I can not believe that I am hearing the guys from ESPN's halftime show

They are basically saying it is OK to climb into the stands and fight with fans. Because it was in the "heat of the moment" and the players had "lots of frustration that had built up during the game."

OK, the Pacers were up by 15 and there was less than 1 minute to go in the game.

Unbelievable.
