Pistachios

Why are these things so popular/hyped?

I had some for the 1st time last night. Tasted ok, nothing special. I would rather eat peanuts or cashews than these though.

It's because they are delicious. Probably my favourite solo nut to snack on from a taste perspective, though I eat almonds more often.

They are more tender than almonds and a more delicate flavor than peanuts. Roasted and salted and they are omm nom nom...

But yeah...expensive so I don't keep them home that much. My kids can destroy one of those $15 bags of them in a weekend.

They're delicious. Probably not my favorite, but they're a solid contender. They're best in the shell. It slows you down, so the deliciousness lasts longer.

They taste awesome. I find it helps if they're salted though. I bought some raw ones at bulk barn and they're not as good as the salted ones. It's funny because the salt just goes on the shell, but guess enough of it makes it in that it alters the flavor.

I like most other nuts too though. Cashews are probably my 2nd favorite. Peanuts are good too.

They're fun to eat, since you get to pry open a little shell, but you don't have all the bullshit that comes with other nuts in the shell. Peanuts? Their shells get everywhere. Walnuts? You need tools. TOOLS. It's a snack, goddammit, I don't want to have to break out a hammer and an anvil. But pistachios? Pry 'em open with your fingers, feel good about your minor accomplishment, and treat yourself to a delicious nut. It's excellent.

Since it was your first time, I have to ask if you ate them correctly.

1) Did you have salted roasted shells still on the pistachios?
2) Did you stick the salted shell into your mouth to open up the shell with your teeth?

They are just the right amount of subtle nutty flavor mixed with just the right amount of salt. I'd have to say they are my favorite nut in that context.

Pistachios come a very close second to cashews, they would be first but sometimes I can't be bothered to shell the bloody things and salt + cracked black pepper cashews are amazing.

Not all of the pistachios were easy to open. 1 I couldn't even crack with my teeth.

They were salted & roasted. Mostly just cracked the shell with my hands. Put a few shells in my mouth. They were super salty too.

Me too, except I probably eat more peanuts since they're less expensive than the other two.

Back in 2009, Wonderful Pistachios were attempting to gain marketshare and literally incentivizing anyone to buy their product. After cashback/coupon/rebate/sale, I was literally buying pound bags for .50 cents each at my local RiteAid. It took me nearly three years to deplete my entire 30lb stock.

Yet Blue Diamond also incentivized buying almonds during that timeframe and I still have many bags remaining. Guess I like almonds but absolutely love pistachios.
