Yeah. After buying our last American POS car we decided that all future used vehicles will be Foreign with warranty remaining.

Lemon Law only applies to Brand New vehicles, not used. Also, most states do not have any kind of return policy. Basically, you drive it off the lot and take ownership, it's yours.

Living through Minnesota winters has to have a few perks.

The best way for the OP is to contact the BBB and the TV/radio stations at the dealer's location. Make a big deal and hope for the best.

I would never buy a used/pre owned vehicle from any dealer.

A guy in city 30 minutes west of where I live put his truck up for sale on Craigslist. Two guys visited him for a test drive. Now the the owner of the truck and the truck itself have been missing for days, and the city's homicide unit is now investigating. Kind of off topic, but it is another example of a used car sale gone awry.

That's why you always go to any Craigslist transaction armed.

And never give people on CL your address. Meet up at a busy shopping center where there are lots of people around. Even if nobody does anything, having people around will deter the would me murderers from killing you in public.

Wait, you bought a used car without looking over/checking Service history of the car?

WOW

Upper management won't do squat, if anything you will remind them how great of a job their sales team did by selling a used car with no service record!

Just learn form your mistake/don't do it again.

People forget that Service history is #1 when it comes to buying a used car. If you don't have the history you are basically taking a gamble on "someone" doing it or not doing it. Things like this can severely alter the life of your car AND the size of your wallet.

I'm confused what's going on and the anti-car dealership attitude that you are getting in this thread is just the common knee jerk reaction and not really based on anything other than people don't like spending a ton of money and buying cars makes them uncomfortable.

So, to clarify, you bought a used car from a dealership that was about 5 hours away and had an issue that required some work so you took it to a local dealership. Correct? You said it was covered by warranty. What warranty is this? Is it the manufacturer's 3/36000 new car warranty or something after the fact? Is it a certified used warranty that is also through the manufacturer?

Bought a Tundra at a Ford dealership...got a good deal...carfax clean...clean truck all the way around.

Was about 5 hours away...drove it home and had an issue the second day of ownership. Turned out it was covered via Toyota on an extended warranty.

SO...when I called the dealer to voice my displeasure I asked if they could send me the actual mechanical inspection of the truck (this was prior to me knowing what was totally wrong). I messed up here because I didn't ask for it before the sale...I was told that the car was inspected prior to sale (which I thought was law anyways)...so I didn't pay it much mind at that moment.

I got the run around for over a week saying they couldn't find the paperwork...said they would get back to me.

I finally gave them a call back after not hearing for awhile and got stonewalled...which I knew was going to happen.

I was annoyed with the dismissive attitude and knew there was nothing that could be done, I was looking for a little help but looking at it from their standpoint why should they give a fuck.

I was under the impression they had to keep some sort of records available for a vehicle strictly from a liability standpoint...and maybe they do and they just in-turn lied to me about not being able to find the documents...

I asked him straight out if I had an accident because of some negligence on their part (brake failure) and It went to court and they didn't have an inspection report how would that look...he wouldn't answer at all...

It was like talking to a fucking moron that kept on repeating the same thing over and over. I knew I was defeated and probably wouldn't really get a straight answer unless it was under some sort of circumstance that I was actually suing this dealership...

At this point things are a non-issue, the truck was fixed without any cost to me, I was just out about a weeks time without the truck.

There probably wasn't any way they could have caught what broke...I guess the reason I am pissed and making a hub bub about this is how dismissive they were about the whole deal and being pecker heads...

coupons.com

In my area there was another truck similar to what we got...only difference was the color and about 10,000 miles...

The price difference was over 3 grand...closer to 4 grand.

SO...to take a hit on driving 5 hours one for a vehicle is ok considering it was that much of a savings.

I had trouble printing my coupons at coupons.com, have you experience that?

OP, you should burn the place down.

The truck had an inspection report in the window (the yes / no) check box version...

That was all green lights, no issues...

I didn't get that copy upon sale, they must have taken it out of the window and discarded it...I didn't check before leaving.

I asked for a copy of either that or whatever the actual mechanical inspection was of the vehicle when they took ownership...because at that time I didn't know what the actual problem was and I was annoyed.

The main reason I asked was to see their response (yeah we got it here you go or the IDK where that went...sorry). I got the second version when I got in touch with the service manager "Brandon C." who was a d-bag and just blowing me off which I got pissed about...

I called within 72 hours basically after the sale requesting the above and he told me that paperwork was missing / destroyed...which I called B.S. on...and then we went FULL retard on me with other comments that further annoyed me...

Yeah. 30 day return / lemon law in my state; "good" deal or not, they don't want your money.

Living through Minnesota winters has to have a few perks.

Minnesota does NOT have a "30 day return" window for cars.

From the Minnesota Attorney General's website:

Did you know that there is no three day "cooling-off" law when you buy a car? Once you sign the contract, the car is yours. You can't return the vehicle if you decide that you don't want it or can't afford it.

Now, the state's Lemon Law (which only applies to new cars) does contain a mention to "30 days" but that's not a return period. That's a reference to the lemon law kicking in if the car is out of service for 30 or more cumulative business days due to warranty repairs.

I'm planning to drive about 7 hours next weekend to pick up a Jeep. I talked them down $2,500 off their asking price which will put it about $7,500 below KBB value. KBB puts more value in vehicles but it's still a great deal.

Dealer inspection is worthless. You can't rely on that info from the person that's selling you the car. It's YOUR responsibility to hire a mechanic to do the inspection FOR YOU.

;)

Service records mean EVERYTHING.

Do everything you can legally do to destroy their business and reputation.

Post a dozen reviews on google about their dealership. Post horrible shit on their face book if they have it. complain to BBB, and leave them daily answering machine messages abouh how they are lying scumbags.

Eventually, you will annoy them and they will work to get you your paperwork.

Or, they will take you to court, and you will have to leave them alone.

$4000 for 10 hours of driving. Sounds like a sweet deal!

You can try taking it up with management, or even corporate. But knowing what I know about used cars salespeople (nothing) I don't know if you'll get much help.

I'd start off by getting a tip to tail inspection at my local mechanic, and if anything bad/serious showed up, I'd try a lot harder for that inspection paperwork. Any modern dealership has electronic records.
