Pirates ! Open Beta

I played in one of the stress tests and the game was just abysmal. It is unfortunate because the concept is great, but the execution, in my opinion, is seriously lacking.

I may try the open beta for a bit though to see if they have improved things.

Yeah, I was in the stress test and got into the beta, too. It definitely has amazing potential, but I think the biggest problem is going to be a lack of direction because the game is trying to do too many things at once. There's just no way to nail down and balance them all.

You've got an economic sim going on at the same time as a ship-to-ship combat game, at the same time as a 3rd person melee combat game, and inter-faction PvP combat going on on top of that. Great ideas, but I can't imagine they're going to have anywhere near the time or resources to get them all remotely finished, let alone balanced, before Sony screams at them to get it out the door.

My prediction: a potentially amazing game that'll end up a buggy mediocrity.
 
i saw some video preview of it and it looked pretty boring. the melee combat looked like your typical auto attack type crap.
