Pipeline Masters Final Day starts in 7 Minutes

Thanks man. WTH, did he just dig a rail?

Only by the power of Slater, will you win going backdoor at Pipe. 😀

I can't believe Occy is still competing.

yeah i finally saw a video of Occy competing as a youngster.

some of the best high-performance surfing i've ever seen. connecting every turn, lightning quick like Mick Fanning, but less methodical - just exciting to watch.

Occy vs. Curren, 1986

i still think Slater is over-scored - on occasion.

Way ahead of you buddy, been watching it since it started. As for slater, he isnt overscored, hes just clearly better than anyone else. My opinion is skewed because I grew up in Cocoa Beach and went to school with his brother Skippy. For crying out loud, he is on a 5'11" at solid pipe, who else is doing this? The only way he loses is when he gets unlucky and his opponent has the heat of their life.

On another note, the womens contest is going on at Honolua Bay in Maui, kind of boring but fun to watch that spot. I can't wait to go back there in a month. My second favorite wave I have ever surfed.

BTW OP, have you seen my new board?

Slater got a 10 and a 9.0 in 2 minutes after being combo'd with 5 minutes remaining.... Best ever...

i think that was in the semi-final with Timmy Reyes.

i thought his second scoring wave in the quarter-final with Jamie O'Brien,
he got a 9, was far and away his best wave of the day. In terms of the
length of the ride, and the impossibility factor - he got pinched at the
end & still made it - and the go-for-it factor - he then deliberately plowed
into a mountain of whitewater. the first time i felt he was absolutely
under-scored.

anyway, it was wierd at the end. the buoy reading was about 12' @ 13
seconds, but the final was practically flat, few waves ridden, low scoring.
maybe the tide had an affect.

still damn entertaining !

but, in terms of Best Ever, i think Andy Irons in the 2006 Pipe Masters,
when it was a 4 man final and he came from behind in the last 5 minutes
on 2 impossible waves to clinch it, that left me with more of the "i can't believe
he did that" 'chicken-skin' factor. i heard Rob Machado talking about that,
apparently Andy was hassling Rob pretty hard to keep him off waves. then
Rob paid him back a little bit at the 2007 Boost Mobile Pro at Trestles. Andy
drew - guess who ? - Rob Machado on Rob's home turf. I think Rob won that
one.

i sure am glad to see Parkinson win something big like the Triple Crown, too.

oh yeah, Nice Board ! i'm wondering if it is lighter than a regular polyurethane
foam or epoxy board, or just more durable.

As for the board, it is lighter and more durable. Its the same bouyancy as a poly, rides the same as the lost RNF i had back in 99.

i think it's odd that AI went into a competitive slump the year after he married
his girlfriend Lindy (Lyndy ?).

contrastingly, i think one of the reasons Slater has done well this year is that
he's found a steady girlfriend that he really likes. My guess is, she is "the one"
for him.

i'm not saying AI doesn't like & love Lyndie. the timing is just wierd.
