i really need a reciever, is this any good?

it's an older model, but the Pioneers are pretty good.

I got this when it was on clearance from Costco for $149. It is a very good receiver, sounds as good as my 914 which cost more than twice as much. This is a 6.1 receiver.

I think this one is rumored (maybe read this on avsforum) to be internally identical to a $600 Elite line model. I love my VSXD811, which was $300 1&1/2 years ago.

One big advantage of the Pioneers, which I assume includes this model, is that they have preamp outs on _all_ channels, which is very unusual. This lets you upgrade to better & bigger power amps down the road. Even as a multichannel preamp only, $199 is a bargain.

Another "yes" vote, Pioneer and Onkyo are the two brands I'd recommend if you're spending less than $500.

Just a heads up for anyone looking. CC seems to be clearing out some of their older Pioneer models right now. I just bought the last VSXD814K for $179 at my local store.
