The VSX-D814 isn't on CC's website. Should it be? Is this a big YMMV?
How often does Outpost have the Polk $40 or $50 a pair sale?
Also is there a cheaper sub than that Dayton? I'd even take a 6" or 8". It's for my parents.

Not sure on where this deal is available.

Outpost puts these on sale every couple weeks I think? Usually only one or two kinds on sale at a time though (like cherry R50s and black R15s for example)

If you want something really cheap to go with a receiver, you can get a whole dayton 5.1 set

That is a very good deal.

Is the Pioneer 1015 selling at a 100 off premium? I may add that to my computer setup rather than another setup.

If you are gonna go cheap on ur receiver, you might as well buy a cheapo out of the box home theater system, if you just want basic surround sound.

I for one would not go cheap on the receiver, because its the most important part of your home theater system, and this receiver just does not cut it for me.

Good deal though, since u save 50$ off the competition.

I think an argument could be made that speakers matter more than your receiver.

I think it's closer to $100 off the competition.

I think
814 ($110)
3 pairs polk r15s ($150)
dayton 12" ($140)

= $400 + shipping

would be a goog competator to

an onkyo htib for about the same price.

Agreed, I would much rather spend money on good speakers than on a receiver.

Pioneer 1015 where?

I have the 1014 and it's doing a pretty darn good job with the stress I'm putting on it ;)

1015 adds another component input... I think there's something else too but I don't remember.

I got mine for $287

My CC didn't have this receiver. All they had was the silver version, at a much higher price.

Is this a closeout unit, or should all stores have it or be able to order it for $110?

No one has mentioned the HSU Ventriliquest, or subs. Very high rated stuff at a very reasonable price. I got my Ventriliquest set and sub when CompUSA was closing out their HSU stuff. $130.00 then, but you can still find it for $200.00. Five satellites and a center. I also got the STF-2 sub for I think $300.00. Hooked this up to my $80.00 Sherwood 6500 from Fry's and it never fails to impress those who hear it. I believe your surrond sound quality is far more affected by your speakers than receiver.

Polk speakers make me puke, the poor mans bose. Doesn't partsexpress.com still sell some cheap kits etc.?

Good speakers can last a LONG time, and all your music goes through them. Its the spot in the audio chain you really should buy a good product in.

Yeah, Partsexpress has some cheap kits.
You can get a whole cheap 5.1 set from them for $150 if you're on a very tight budget.

Of course there's better stuff out there than Polk, but $40 or $50/pair for speakers is a pretty good deal.

Yes... all your music goes through your speakers when you're using your speakers... It also goes through your receiver, source, cabling, and sub if you don't have fullrange speakers.

Partsexpress has some kits like BR-1s if you want to build some on your own. Ribbon13 has 14 BR-1s if you want to get any input on them.

I'm not sure on their other kits.

Do you have any suggestions on a 5.0 or 6.0 set for around $150 or $200 that doesn't make you puke as much as Polk?

I think the HSU set is a nice set for budget HT, but I wouldn't recommend it for music. The center is the strong point in the set, which is great for HT usage where something like 70% of the sound comes out the center, but for music when it's 100% L,R,sub then I don't think the HSU set is such a great idea.

I think it's only $200 when you buy a sub with the set. On their own they are about $250 off ebay on their own?

If you're doing HT though and want a nice sub to go with your set then that could be a good idea to get a set and an HSU sub to go with it.

You have no right to make your problem everyone else's problem. Please go elsewhere for a couple of weeks to deal with it.

I didn't call ecost to see what the deal with this one was, but this receiver is listed as their cheapest one if you sort by price. They don't list the price though which I haven't seen before.

If somebody wants to check it out and share your results it might be a related hot deal.

It's a Pioneer 815, so this year's model of the 814.
