Pioneer vs. Yamaha for AV equipment

Sorry I can't help you, but I feel your pain. I hate this stupid silver trend, looks so tacky. I have a silver TV, it's 30 years old and gets 13 channels.

Okay, added Pioneer to the poll, although I haven't seen any of their players, much less in black...

My 1998 model Panasonic lasted 4 years, until I replaced it with a $100 Sony for better tracking of rental discs. It was still working fine when I replaced it, just not on scratched-up DVDs. The Sony is still working too.

But people on Amazon seem to have problems with every brand and model of DVD player I look at, so it's a roll of the dice no matter what brand you pick.

Is this the same group of people that makes fun of others for choosing the Ipod because of style over function? 😉

Usually it comes in both colors; you just have to search a bit to find the one you want. I bought a panny dvd/vcr combo for my folks. None of the B&M's had the black one. Finally went to etronics and they had it.

I know you're kidding, but it's Apples and oranges. If you have an AV rack with a black receiver, black cable box, black VCR then a silver DVD player stands out in a bad way.

Yeah. We've got all sorts of multicolored AV stuff here. Up until a few years ago we had a tape deck and reel-to-reel that both had wood housings. There's a champagne JVC DVD player and VCR, silver receiver/turntable (80's silver), silver DirecTIVO, black VCR, black tv, black tape deck and charcoal dual cd deck (recorder). Oh, and the speakers are wood grained as is the tv stand and the AV cabinet.

I'm pretty annoyed with the silver thing too. Could be worse though, at least thin so hardly see it with other components.

I have a silver Yamaha 5750 HTR so I'm looking for a silver DVD player. Once plus for silver is that it makes it easier to discern the buttons and connectors. Sometimes, it's hard to see where to plug a cable into the correct connector on the back of a black component when you're straining to see in a dim room.

Get the JVC, or the Yamaha. The JVC first - cheaper, high rated.

Anything over a changer. The mechanics on these things are horrible. Plus that the Panny has no progressive scan.

pioneer. without a doubt

i have an 20 yr old pioeer receiver that survived a lightning strike.

the remote no longer works on it b/c of it. but, its still going strong other than that.

I've only had experience with yamaha and jvc... but in my experiences both of them have been great audio products...
