This actually beats the 1899 deal from bb if you have to pay tax.

These guys are an avsforum sponsor, very legit.

reseller rating

This 50in is flat out better than any 50in from any other mfg, regardless of resolution.

this TV rocks, if I could afford one I would. For those who need 1080p, BB will be happy to sell you a 1080p set with far worse picture quality. I know if my TV doesn't have a "1080p" sticker on it, it can't possibly be worth having.

Crap! My 5080 doesn't have a 1080p sticker on it. I knew I should've gone with the 1080p Vizio LCD :). On second thought maybe I could buy a 1080p sticker off of ebay :).

I've got a 43" Pio Plasma from 2005 that is 720p w/1080i inputs (the custom Elite model, sans media box, built for Tweeter retailers on Black Friday 2005), and it still blows away most of the flat panels available today. I talked my parents into getting a 50" 720p Elite in 2006, and their TV is also absolutely gorgeous!

Both of ours run at 1366x768 (essentially 720p stretched to 768), and the PQ is still, to this day, hardly matched by anything else available -- except some new 120hz displays, and, of course, any new Pioneer Kuros.

The very best TV on the market today is the 60" Pioneer Elite Pro-150FD 1080p Kuro at around $6000, if you can find one, so there's your benchmark to compare... (one of these days, I'll convince my wife that we need one...:D)

The OP lists a great TV at a decent price! SO GOOD LUCK!

Im so torn, with that 10/12% off coupon at BB from another thread and $2k for this TV I just might have to jump. My only issue is I plan on hooking it up to my PC and using it as a monitor on occasion for gaming, but mainly for movies and such. I just worry about it being "ONLY" 720p, being hooked up to my PC. Anybody hook up this Kuro to their PC, and use it as a monitor? How does it compare (as a PC output) to the Sony XBR4/5's?

Provided that you plan to use it for gaming and not web-surfing there shouldn't be any disappointment. I have used a Samsung 50" plasma(1366 x 768) as a monitor and it looked very nice with games. I am sure a 1080p plasma would look better...but I don't have nor want to have to buy the hardware to play games at the screen's native resolution.

I do have the parts to run at 1080P (have a Dell 2407 which is almost exact same resolution I mainly use), but its more of for movie/tv show watching and not gaming as much. I have the 2407 for primary use, but I want a HDTV to throw up DVD's/TV shows/etc on from my couch and be able to see it better then my lowly 24 inch lol. I narrowed it down to the Kuro, XBR4/5, or the Aquos. The Kuro and Aquos are about $200 difference in price, the Kuro is 4 inches bigger, but lower resolution. I could get the Aquos a bit cheaper but would rather have a nice high quality display.

Overall though it looks as though the Kuro is the better choice even with "only" 720p.

get the kuro, do NOT give up size for resolution. The xbrs and aquos are overpriced crap. I own 1080p dlp and lcd, and a 720p plasma. The plasma is my favorite display for movies and tv by far.

btw in the latest issue of htmag, this lowly kuro beat out every tv, which were all 1080p.

I'm running Ubuntu on my 5080hd and it looks pretty awesome. Dunno about the Sony.

People!!! 1080p is not the be all end all to buying a TV. This this a great analogy. You have a 21ft boat you need to tow around. You can use your wifes 2008 mini cooper with 215hp or your 2008 Jeep Larado with 210 hp (pulled specs from each manufactures website). The Mini Cooper has more hp, but do you think you'd get that boat anywhere???? There is more to the equation than raw numbers. Specs are a good place to start, but if you buy blind, then I don't see the difference between wiping your arse with $100 bills after your done shitting yourself for buying a crap TV. (but the sales person said 1080p was better!!!!)

It seems most people on this thread know this already, but for those who are just starting your hw, don't go rush out and buy the newest 1080p LCD/Plasma/DLP just b/c its 1080p. Most Americans wear glasses anyway from sitting in front of a computer for too long anyway. So you won't be able to tell the difference, even if you are sitting within the specific distances.

My rant is over

Trust me, you cannot use that coupon in conjunction with this TV sale price. I tried (4) stores, got exact same reply everywhere - the coupon clearly states that it's for regularly-price items only.

For towing, you really need to consider ft/lbs of torque, not HP. :D

Very true, but you got the picture....no pun intended.
