Pioneer DVR-110 or BenQ DW1640

If you check out Anandtech DVD Burner Roundup you will see the BenQ is the top performer, and its cheap.

Expect the 110 to perform like the 109. Also note that the Pioneer was better with -R and DL (+-R) media.

Benq 1640 is good. Qsuite 2 software just been release, has option for SolidBurn, WOPC on/off, Bitsetting, Overspeeding media. only complain is that it didn't overspeed media right out of the box and with good results like my previous NEC.

Wait...you mean it doesn't have overspeed burning like the DW1620 has?

If not, OMGWTF ghay. That + bitsetting were what made the DW1620 so awesome (aside from burn quality)>

+bitsetting isn't that impressive. most firmware releases will have it, benq just has it supported it fully supported with 1620 when it came out.
it DOES have overburning feature now with new BSKB firmware and Qsuite too. i dunno about the quality compare to overspeeding with 1620.

Much like the DVR-109, the DVR-110D does not support the Bitsetting feature for DVD+R/+RW media. As with the DVR-109, it supports the automatic change of DVD+R DL media to DVD-ROM in order to maximize compatibility with stand alone players.

Definitely waiting for new firmware release on this one.

Reading the two, the BenQ's weakness is the Pioneer's strength. If you are authoring DVD videos, get the Pioneer for better DL and -R speed and errors. Otherwise, the BenQ seems to be better with CD and general DVD usage.

And if there is debate, get them both. I have an NEC and a Pioneer. I usually author on the Pioneer, but I will duplicate on both without issues at 8X (from my stored ISO). If I need a "DVD-ROM" disc, I use +R in the NEC. If I need full quality, I burn a -R in the Pioneer (but it has not mattered - if I were sending in a disc for a Glass Master, I would use the Pioneer at 4X.)

I own a BenQ 1620 and just got a BenQ 1640 to pair up with it...
So far so good :thumbsup::laugh:

I really like BenQ drives for performance/value.
