It's an OEM product boxed up by Pine...picked one up a couple or three months ago (paid $200 AR), and it's worked well for me. That it comes with Nero Express instead of Nero is a bit lame, but you probably have Nero already that you can use with it.

It is a "blackface" model...looked a little funny in a beige case, but mine now lives in an ADS FireWire case and doesn't look out of place there.

The retail-boxed Pioneer DVR-A05 is also available @ $180, but I can't see paying $70 more for the same drive.

IIRC, there were two rebates on it, so it's probably both.

(There was a manufacturer's rebate when I bought mine...it arrived in a timely manner. So far, I've not had trouble getting rebates on stuff bought at Fry's.)

Price is valid through 8/13. The local Fry's had plenty in stock.

So, it's $110 plus Tax out the door or $110 after rebates? Please clearify?

Read the title again...your question is answered there.

It has something like $50-$60 in rebates to bring it down to $110, so that'd make your upfront cost closer to $160 or $170.

It burns DVD-R at 4x, DVD-RW at 2x (IIRC), and CD-R/RW at speeds I don't remember off the top of my head...probably no faster than 16x for CD-R. I mostly burn DVDs with it, though I burned a CD once just to see how Mac OS X handles that. (I normally use it with various x86 (Athlon XP/MP) boxen, but I have an old beige G3 that I play with from time to time.)

what exactly is the deal?

What is the price at the store and what is the rebate amount? No one seemed to mention this information FOR SURE.

At the San Diego Fry's the sale price was marked $159. I asked a sales rep. if there was a rebate for that drive, he went back and said there was a $30 rebate. I asked if that was the only one he said "yeah." But I guess it's possible that he didn't look for a second one and just said yeah to get rid of me.

Anyone in San Diego have luck with getting both rebates?

Does anyone happen to have any PDFs or scans of the two rebate forms? I picked up a DVR-105 today at the Manhattan Beach, CA Fry's but they handed me the rebate forms for the DVD+R/+RW drive instead. I didn't notice this until I got home, but I'd hate to drive back to Fry's to get the right forms.

I've tried looking the rebate up at Outpost.com, but it doesn't seem to be there.

Thanks!

Pioneer makes some good drives. Too bad it's not SLOT-LOAD! I like my Pioneer 106s slot-load DVDROM. Why Pioneer not make any rewriteable slot-loads? :( I suppose I'll settle for a tray drive.
