Well...not a horrible deal, but 1/2 price to folks here means half real price, not half of what the manufacturer never sold it at to begin with.

Maybe I'm missing something. The IWANNA rules are not to post replies there. Where else would I post a reply to someone looking for good prices to build their home theatre? It may not be a give-a-way, but if you combined it with the Scudder money market $250 deal it would be free!

A decent deal. Not quite as good as the $125 (after Value Dollars) I picked my DV525 up for at Value America last year, though.

DV525 is replaced by DV-333

and they are selling it for around $205 without coupon elsewhere

not a good deal

Actually it is a decent deal because it is a region free DVD player. There is a way to make it region free and disable Macrovision through the menu. I dont have the exact instructions, but they are floating around the net.

I doubt the DV-333 will have the same region free capability.

ygreenkitty brings up a good point... We are told to post deals that we are looking for in the IWANNA thread (where they usually get lost anyway), and to NOT reply there, but, in the unlikely event that someone actually has a suggestion for what you posted about and posts it, then it either gets locked or flamed for not being "HOT". Maybe there should be a "IWANNA Replies" thread? :)

I haven't priced these out lately but nearly a year ago when I got mine they were ~$200 fairly routinely in most places when on sale. I got lucky with the valueamerica deal with rebate and ebates and got it for ~$95 but I don't expect everyone to get in on something like that. Might want to shop around a bit.

What's the point of having a "IWANNA Replies" thread when no one will read that too. :D

SirDante,

As far as I know there is no way to do what you ask but I never looked into it much. I use my hollywood card and the pioneer 6x dvd drive for my computer for that stuff.

SirDante, do a search on deja (usenet discussions) in the past messages of "dv525 disable macrovision" (without the quotes). There are some discussions on how this can be done.

You can get this player for $249 at Best Buy, plus I think Best Buy has a $50 rebate for it.

Hardly 1/2 price...

My search of usenet says that you can't use the 525 w/o macrovision unless you get a hardware mod, there are guys out there who claim otherwise, but other folks say the instructions are for a modded machine. I personally used my PC with a hollywood+ card :)

Personally the 525 is a great machine (got mine for $200 last xmas). Plays CDR VCD's, XVCD's and SVCD's when most DVD players choke on them. Highly recommended.

$200 is a warm deal at best tho'

I'm not sure if this would work but you could potentially save a total of $50 off $170 at 800.com, thanks to Nitz's post.

$229.87
-$20 off $100 800.com coupon
-$30 off $150 rebate offer (see Nitz's thread)
----------------------------------------------
$179.87

I still prefer the Toshiba SD1200 which is selling under $150 today (search for the thread) although this probably has more features.

What the hell? directcom has posted a ^ for like all the posts that are on top of the list.

Are you just trying to get a higher member status? What gives? Please stop because it's annoying to read the post again only to find that you're just posting junk.
