Pioneer DV-108 burning?

So I just got a DV-108 and a pack of Ritek DVD-R' 50Pack and I got a few questions.

Whats the best software to use with burning DVD's.
Can someone gimme some steps?

I wanna make backups of my DVD's, that can play in my DVD player, anyone got any good guides?

I wanna burn 2.4gigs of data files to a DVD, but its not letting me, any suggestions?

What can I get the latest firmware?

not sure what "alternavitse" is but mrbass' site is the easiest way to go ..DVDShrink is very nice with Nero 6 as the burning software..gl
 
when I use nero6, it wants me to put in a CD-RW saying it detects at DVD-R, is there a step somewhere what I put DVD on it?
