Dont blame the receiver, blame yourself for being an ignorant consumer.

Now, as far as SOUND quality - WOW. A lot of you folks bought a Kenwood HTB504 or HTB503 last year because it was a steal. I was one of them. This receiver makes an AMAZING upgrade to sound quality. Just unhook the Kenwood, and plug this puppy in. The highs are higher, the lows are lower, and the sound positioning is excellent!
Imagine how it will perform with a $800 (used) Parasound 5-channel amplifier. The possibilities are endless.

Yeah, but this would have been fan-da*n-tastic with a price match at CC, Gift card and MSN$$$$

CC price - 110% PM - 20% MSN - gift card = total
399.99 - 110.00 - 60.00 - 30.00 = 199.99 + tax

MSN adjusted the credit to the price after pricematch, so only $60 MSN money.
I just went to circuitcity.com and can't find this receiver. The 411, 511, 711 yes, but not the 811.

This is a great deal... bought this online for $320 4 months ago.

I have my Acoustic Research HC-6 speakers hooked up to it and it sounds excellent.

Best receiver for the money.

I believe CC no longer has it.

A CC employee told me that CC is holding these in warehouses until the Best Buy sale is over, because they must not have gotten the same deal that BB did. He was pounding on the keyboard at his monitor saying he saw them at the warehouse but 'couldnt get to them.'

Ha! That makes me feel better about doing price matches, etc. If CC hides their 811's to keep people from PMing them against their competitor I can pull a few tricks of my own trying to get a better deal without feeling guilty. It underscores the fact that sometimes you have to jump on a deal before it disappears in smoke... especially if it seems a little too good to be true. Of course, you have to make sure first you won't get burned...

That's good to know. I guess I don't have to decide by Saturday, then. But I went to CC.com to see if I could swing the deal described higher in this thread - $180 !! MSN + $30 gift card + PM of the BB price. I figured that at THAT price, I HAD to go for the 811s. Right now, I'm leaning some toward the Kenwood VR-6060 or VR-6070. More money but they have phono inputs and otherwise pretty similar features. The 6070 has preamp outs and THX certification. They also have buttons on the unit so you don't have to choose your input via a knob when not using the remote.

Yes, but there are a couple of factors to take into consideration.

1) Shipping fees: The receiver might sell for less than $300, but the shipping could be quite high. Also, if a problem is encountered and you need to return the receiver to the retailer, you'll have to come up with the shipping fees to get the receiver back to them.
2) Restocking fees: Most on-line vendors charge restocking fees for opened merchandise.
3) Time without the receiver: If you have to ship a defective receiver back to the on-line retailer, then you might be without a receiver for over a week.

I think if anyone is considering this offer, they should purchase the receiver locally. $299.99 + tax from Best Buy seems like a great price for this receiver. Plus, buying it locally will resolve some the issues that I noted above.

Buying the receiver at BB gives you a full warranty, no questions asked. You may not get the warranty honored from Pioneer if you buy from an unauthorized seller online. Despite this fact, I bought mine online five months ago and have had no problems. YMMV, so buy it locally at BB if you can, just to be safe.

Ive looked at 'em and it appears that the 711 is a 5.1 version of the 811. (which is 6.1). I imagine if you have a room where you can place speakers correctly around the viewer, then (one rear center speaker) 6.1 or (two rear speakers offset right and left) 7.1 would sound better than 5.1 (no rear speaker).

My BB didn't have it yesterday either, but I think you can order it with free shipping for same price at bestbuy.com. The sales guys offered to let me order right their on one of their machines but I deferred.

I bought a VSX-811S at BB back in July for $399. It's a decent receiver, with lots of features that you would only find in higher-end receivers that cost at least twice as much. However, like I said, it's a "decent" receiver. For some reason, it just doesn't sound as good as a Sony STR-DE925 and a HK AVR-520 that I have, and the menu/setup is not as easy. Of course, it also depends on what speakers/wire you have, as well as the room. For those looking for a low priced receiver with all the features of this Panasonic model, than I would recommend that you take a look at this one. ;)

Sorry if this sounds sophomoric, but, even if the room isn't perfect you can balance every speaker to make it close.
