Does any one know where I can find some information on Pioneer's DVD-500M drive? I can't find it anywhere on Pioneers web site. It's supposed to be the replacement for the 116 from what I hear, but I can't find much information on it.

A few of those sites on that search are online stores that have some info on this drive that may help out. Good Luck!

I just bought an 500M. It does DAE very fast with firmware 1.07, about 35x (it does reach around 47x). Data transfer is about 32x, not that fast really. The drive is not quiet. It reads DVD-Video disc @ an avg. of 6.00x and DVDROM @ about 7x. Not the fastest drive...but I think I notice about it is that it's quite heavy.

So this drive is the replacement for the 116? Weird how it's not on Pioneer's site. Really hard to find out the differences between the 500m and 116. Does anybody know of any? Is it better?

<You wouldent need more than ATA 66, or ATA 33 for that matter. >

True, but at least you could attach it to an ATA100 HD without slowing it down.
