PIO Mode Blues!! 16x DVD and 40x CDRW will NOT connect in DMA MODE!!

i have an Abit nf7s v2.0, 16x DVD, 40x CDRW, and WinXP and i can't get my optical drives to run in dma mode for the life of me...

16x Liteon DVD (master)
40x10X40 LG CDRW (slave)

-not sure about the DVD drive but i know the 40x CDRW has connected at DMA mode 2 when its the only optical on the channel
-made sure i selected DMA if available
-have reconnected them many times
-made sure nothing else is running on this molex connection
-hdd is in UDMA 6 using the same type of rounded cables (was a set)
-using bios 1.4 (just put 1.7 on a floppy to update in a bit)
-double checked all connections
-think i have it set up as master and slave

...not sure what the problem could be since i have used these same cables before and the CDRW drive connected at DMA 2 but it was the only drive on the 2nd channel at the time. from what i have heard/read, the newer DVDs are supposed to be capable of UDMA66?

it goes without saying how frustrating this can be when you want to use the drives for burning audio or watching a movie. if anyone has gone thru this and found a solution please post. a link to a fix would be just as much appreciated if you dont feel like typing. thanx in advance.

suggest you try with the burner as master & dvd as slave.
if they're still running in pio mode then uninstall the ide channel that they're on in device manager then reboot.
windows will redetect the channel hopefully putting your drives in dma mode!
