PIO instead of DMA??

Um, yeah, I know this probably a software issue (and not hardware), but I need help. I just hooked up my not-too-old old CD burner to my new system, and it's running in PIO mode rather than DMA. In the device manager in the systems applet I selected "DMA mode if available" as the transfer mode for my secondary IDE channel, but it stills registers the drive as PIO. Does DMA not apply to ATAPI drives or what? I have a feeling this is seriously slowing down my software installs, so plz help!!

BTW I am using Win XP Pro and a Creative 8432 burner

try seeing if there's a setting in your BIOS to enable DMA for your drives there...often once you enable DMA for your drive in the BIOS (if it has that option), allows XP to see it as a DMA drive.

The drive supports DMA. Does your HDD show DMA to be enabled?

yes my HD has DMA enabled (mode 5). I checked my bios and there is no option to enable it (or disable it for that matter).
yeah, maybe I should contact MSI about this.

Try disabling the cdrom in your bios. Windows should still see it, and will most likely enable DMA. I had to do this on my old Asus P3B-F (Gawd I loved that board, may it rest in peace)
