Pins bent right out of box on my 3000+

I just got my 3000+ from Newegg and 2 pins are bent. I called newegg to get the RMA processed started since there website for RMA is currently down. And the person over the phone says I have to go through AMD directly. I just bought it from newegg 5 days ago. WTF. There site even says they will handle all return for CPU's for 14 days after purchase.
Now I have to wait even longer to get this Sh*t resolved through AMD.

I'm pi$$ed, I spend like 2k a year with newegg.

Thought I would rant. Any other experiences from anyone on here?

That sounds really crappy. Who did you use as a shipper, UPS or Fedex?

Also, not that this is something you should have to do since it was broken before you got it, but have you tried to straighten the pins?

2 bent pins are nothing to really get an RMA for... unless those two pins are broken, i'd take a credit card or fine tip mechanical pencil and just bend them back.

i remmeber back in the day when pepole would get p4 northwoods from outpost with a whole row of bent pins and they'd be like the best overclocking chips :)

try to bend them back carefully. i've bent many pins before and have had zero break off.

Back in the day? P4 Northwoods? Why we would get reject Pentiums from wholesalers with thermal grease still on them. Paid half of retail price, which "back in the day" was a good deal since there were no discounts on computer stuff, everything was premium priced. A pin missing? Who cares, who needs a floating point anyway.
Install them, crank up the computer, sniff the smell of the burning insulation, and go for it. Some beautiful machines with the Dual Voodoos, OC'd Pentiums, and water cooling when it rained and the window was open.

Well I did bend them back...and now I get a CPU Fan error. The fan is running just just as far as I can tell. But if keep saying that everytime I start up the system.

And yeah the above pic is wickedly bad!

That happened to me. It wasn't a great overclocker though. :(

I have some doubts as to the pins being bent on retrieval. ZIF, ZERO INSERTION FORCE. I messed up an AMD64 3200+ a few years ago(spent >200 on it) and tried to say that they were bent when I got it. If you look at how they are packed theres no way it could bend in transit. Go through AMD and consider yourself lucky if you get a return, luckily I did, and now I know never to put an expensive processor in myself.

I bent my processor legs last night. I was replacing my stock HSF with a xp90. I applied the thermal paste and installed the heatsink WITHOUT locking the CPU in! I panicked and took the heatsink and cpu out. To my horror, one corner of the cpu had a bunch of bent legs. I took my pocket knife and nail clipper file and bent them all back. One of them is still badly bent and I would need some needle nose pliers to straighten it. I was pissed and sad when it didn't drop into the slot like before. I tried to bend them some more but no avail. I then put some more force to push the CPU in, risking more legs. It actually popped amazingly and i took it back out to check for damage. NONE! Then I put it back in and installed my xp90. Load temps for 2 instances of F2H is 45C OCed to 2.4ghz.

Cliffnotes:
-Installing CPU isn't hard, but one dumbass move could cost you $xxx.
-Bent legs suck, but it takes a lot of bending to break them off. (a couple of my legs were so bent they touched the processor.)
-XP90 looks totally wicked installed.


Edit: I have recieved bent pins on CPUs before that I bought from Fry's. Dissappointed me. I just bent them back to use it though..

That is no BS. OCZ, eVGA, NewEgg, TankGuys, etc. Anyone who reaches out to the public to protect their name and support their customers is deserving of this praise.

It is possible that the pins were already bent from AMD. I've seen CPUs in retail boxed packages with bent pins - heck some of the packages are clear so after removing from cardboard box you can see the bent pins without opening the plastic.

BTW, $2k/year is nothing. :p
