Copy DVDs: Burn a 9GB, dual layer DVD video onto a standard 4.7 GB recordable disc.

WOW...DVD X copy couldn't pull that off..
Wonder how they do it?

DVD2One can do it in 30 minutes and then all you have to do is burn it to cd.

Only thing that DVD2One is missing is a built in burning engine.

EDIT: BTW InstantCopy hasn't been released so I doubt you will get too many opinions on it.

DVD2One is the better way to go. :)

InstantCopy takes 2+ hours to scrunch down a DVD. It does keep menus and stuff tho.

First off let's compare an apple to a donkey. Instant copy and dvd2one both copying only the main movie...(IC you must include menu though). Uncheck subtitles you don't want to keep. Same goes for audio. Many times the audio 5.1 ac3 audio track and main movie are under 4.37GB when stripping out all the extra crap. So in this case there is NO difference because no transcoding occurs at all. Basically you could probably do the same with dvddecrypter of smartripper and stream process the crap or maybe not. Anyways the area in which Instant Copy excels over dvd2one is where the original video is 6GB or more. Then dvd2one shows it's macroblocks (which personally I can't live with..if you can more power to ya). IC7 takes it's sweet time 2 hours or more but it pays off in the end as the quality is great.

Instant Copy is a better program than DVD2one. I've used both, and while DVD2one is refreshingly simple, at the end of the day, Instant Copy produces a better image, retains menus, allows greater control, and is really the only option if you want to backup television dvds (not entirely true, but it's tons easier with Instant Copy than with DVD2one).

The only thing that sucks about Instant Copy is that it won't automatically create a 4.3 gig disc image if you set it to 4.3. It usually comes in a few hundred megs less than that. The only thing you have to do is set the final output size to 4.5-4.6gigs, but if you go over the 4.3 gig DVD blank limit, you've got to start all over. At 2 hours per disc, it's a pain. The good thing is that even if the image is only 3.8-4.1 gigs, it still looks great. The bad thing is that it will piss you off knowing that there's still 300-500megs of information that you could have used to make the image quality look better.

There are some tools floating that estimate what to set the final output size to have it come out to 4.35 gigs, but even if you use less than the full disc, I think the image is a little better than DVD2one.

Here are a few pages with examples from Episode 2. There's another program out there called DVD95copy which has been making a few waves, but I've been avoiding it because of some of the reviews. That being said, it appears to be the winner in the link below. (To notice the subtle differences, download the images, rename them to 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc..., and then flip between them using ACDsee.)

Episode II Original vs. DVD95copy vs. DVD2one vs. Instant Copy

X-men 1.5 Original vs. DVD95copy

Doom9 Poll: Which do you Prefer?

I'd love to see some more quality comparisons. That being said, for a regular 2 hour movie, both DVD2one and Instant Copy are pretty damn good.

Go here to learn this type of information. You are totally in the dark on how to do it and it requires too much effort to explain it. There are plenty of guides that will explain it to you.

IC you must include menu though).

Not true. You can modify a string in the registry to allow you to deselect the menu and/or anything else you wish. Thus allowing you to keep the video quality of the main movie as high as possible.

If you go take a look at Doom9 there is a person that showed exactly why using IC to remove titles is not a good idea. It is much better to take the 10 minutes and use Ifoedit to remove unwanted titles.

what problems are you guys having with the editing and menues?

I didnt say it was a bad idea. I merley said it could be done. FWIW, it works flawlessly for me that way.

Well first off the main problem I have had with IC is the estimated sizing issue most people have. I RARELY ever get a 4.31gig image from IC. They really need to fix this issue. With some work I can get the images to the correct size but it is a hassle IMO.

As for removing titles and it working for you. Yes it is technically working for you now BUT it is not correctly updating IFOs correctly. What happens in two years and you buy a new dvd player that DOESN'T play the dvd correctly because the IFOs were butchered?????

I am just giving you fair warning. I too have used IC to remove titles but I don't anymore. I use IFOEdit because it creates correct IFOs and I won't have to worry about dvd players in the future as long as they read dvdr.
