Can anyone recommend a good DVD burner or a good deal on one, to go with the Pinnacle Software I ordered? Thanks...

A customer did a review at amazon on this product and he says it's junk cause it won't copy copyprotected DVDs. Is this true? If your kid sits on his Barney DVD, you have to buy a new one instead of a back up? :(

I believe it works regardless of format. I have it on my desk, but haven't installed it to try it out. I have a DVD+R/RW drive.

You need to rip the dvd first using smartripper or dvddecryptor.

Try Doom 9 for details on how to obtain and use these free programs.

Like the guy above said, you basically have to rip/decrypt the copy-protected dvd to your HD first using dvd-decrypter and then use a dvd-imaging tool like Daemon-tools to make the ripped image look like a dvd to the instant copy program. This is very simple and is described on doom9 website

I've copied several with the program. You use DVD-Decrypter and rip the entire contents in file mode and then use Instant copy from HDD to DVD±R/RW. That's all. No more steps at all.

Ok, so the poster at Amazon was misinformed....point taken. Now question: Assuming you rip it to your HD, what is best to make the new DVD with, InstantCopy, Nero(can it?) or other software? In other words, what is the best software combo to get? Any input on a good DVD burner or DVD burner deal to get? :)

don't forget you'll run into file size limits it you aren't using an NTFS formatted partition... :(

it's 4GB max on non-NTFS, I think.

J&R still doesn't have this in stock and my order was backordered ... so I went ahead and cancelled it two days back. But this morning I got an e-mail from Buy.com that InstantCopy is in stock. It is still showing "in stock" with a price of $36.99 with a $20 rebate making the final price $16.99 + shipping ($7 for standard shipping).

What's more interesting is that the rebate form at Buy.com is a generic one that does not metion any specific store ! So you can buy InstantCopy anywhere between 02/15/2003 and 05/31/2003 (postmark by 06/15/2003) and get a $20 rebate

(Note that the rebate still goes to the crappy New Rochelle rebate center ... but lately I have had surprisingly good luck getting all my rebates from them ... even without a follow-up phone call :p)

So I checked Amazon and they have Pinnacle Instant Copy on a "1 to 2 weeks" shipping time for a price of $39.99 with FREE shipping. So I went ahead and placed an order at Amazon with a $5 off $35 coupon making my final price (after $20 rebate) $14.99 shipped :D

Delivery estimate at Amazon is March 18, but I am sure I'll get it earlier, now that retailers have started getting this in stock.

uncJIGGA: Even you should be able to get the $20 rebate now as long as your order @ Ingram was placed on or after Feb 15, 2003 using the rebate form @ Buy.com

Good luck all !!

I just order from J & R, I'll call them up to price match tomorrow. Hopefully I can get free shipping also. Thanks for the update.

Just ordered it from Amazon, they have the best price (w/ the $5 off $30, comes to $14.99 AR w/ free shipping), but there's a wait involved to get it.

"Shipping estimate: March 29, 2003 - March 31, 2003
Delivery estimate: April 3, 2003 - April 9, 2003 "

I'll find out tonight how well it worked for me. I left it in the process of writing a backup of one of my son's dvds.

Can anyone tell me what happens if I don't include the sneak previews on the DVD. Will the DVD still function normally? I reduced the quality on them to 30% and included them this time.

Qtip or anyone else familiar,

I read over Doom9, can decrypt to IFO but then when using Instant Copy to go from HD to DVD, what is the file type? I see the .IFO and all the .VOB files. What am I doing wrong? Am I supposed to select all instead of just the main movie when decrypting?

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks.
