Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon

I'm watching Dream Theater's Official Bootleg of their cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, which includes guest musicians from Roger Water's Band, whom have also played with Pink Floyd.

Man, they do it right. Even the Dream Theater singer shows vocal wanking restraint.. Light Show is amazing, recording quality is great, and in dream theater fashion, the instrumental parts are elegant and elaborate, and basically amazing..

I highly recomend you check it out if you are a Pink Floyd or Dream Theater fan...

I am not a fan so I am not sure, but it is in Japan I believe.

If you don't like Pink Floyd, you are either deaf, or culturally ignorant. Which is it?

You will handilly die, in a fire, in a Pink Floyd thread, if you don't like PF/

They did an acceptable job covering PF. Covering PF is not easy to do though so I give them much credit. I felt the guitar and keyboard parts were especially excellent.

The DT lead singer is god awful. I can't stand him. And he in no way replicates Gilmour's voice. Other than that, they did a decent job instrumentally of covering PF. I'd say if you are a DT fan check this out, otherwise just go buy Pulse or watch old videos of the Floyd themselves.

yea, they should kick the singer out, and bring back Kevin Moore, the original DT piano player.. Even if they have two keyboardists then, Kevin Moore can sing too, and he actually does sound like Gilmour.

What's wrong with James LaBrie? I think he's great for DT, if you listen to When Dream And Day Unite you'll hear the true original singer, Charlie Dominici, and IMO JLB is FAR better for DT than CD. On the past few tours he has been incredible live, and he really can sing.
I also don't quite get the obsession that some people seem to have with bringing Kevin Moore back, sure he was good, but Derek Sherinian and Jordan Rudess have both done some amazing things with the band. It's also good to note that Mike Portnoy tried to get KM to come back for at least one or two songs on both the When Dream and Day Re-Unite live concert and (I think) the Score 20th anniversary concert, and KM declined both. Kevin chose to leave the band after Awake, and has shown no interest in returning for even a reunion show. At this stage the band has also pretty well cemented in place with Jordan on keys, so there really isn't any chance of him getting replaced unless he just decides to leave the band for some reason.

After watching Time, here are my thoughts:

The guitarist and drummer are very good. They were a joy to listen to. However, the vocals SUCKED. That singer needs to go. The sound for Dark Side of the Moon is soft and mellow and dreamy. I felt like it was Dennis DeYoung of Styx singing Time. Just not the right way to go.

SCREW both of those options. LaBrie is a very love/hate kind of guy...but you must admit that he brings an original and unique sound to the group. As far as keyboards go, no one can touch the Rudess/Petrucci combo when they get locked in sync. It's simply mesmerizing.

And the Japan Dream Theater concert is most likely their Live at Budokan performance. Amazing show.

oh god...dream theater's great but...man dark side of the moon was a MASTERPIECE! someone stated that it's hard to cover PF, well think how hard it was for them to make that album back in 1973, they didn't have all the fancy-ass equipment that's used today, not even close. i'm tempted to watch it, but now i'm tempted to just watch wizard of oz/dsotm 😉.
