Barrett sucked.. I heard one of the albums with him and I don't see why he is so highly praised.

He isn't highly praised. Some of his stuff was pretty decent and some of it was the psychotic ramblings of a man too stoned to function. Just because one or two people like something doesn't mean it's good. Milli Vanilli had fans, so of course Barrett will too. Sadly taste in music is not something bestowed at birth.

A person is entitled to like the Barrett Floyd just as a person is entitled to like the Gilmour Floyd. It's just that anyone who does clearly doesn't understand the first thing about Floyd and should be listening to Milli Vanilli instead.

Christ, and I was called stupid. I have a great many friends in varying levels of the music industry that could tear apart your wildly stupid analogy in 2.2 seconds. I know of at least four or five people who are probably alot more knowledgable than you and I combined that even own the Barrett solo box.

So if I released a double album then it wouldn't be half-assed, even if it was garbage?

And I'm sorry, but Dark Side Of The Moon is a hundred times better than The Wall.

Blasphemy! I shall bring you before my giant easter island head replica and sacrifice you to my great pink! 😉 I like the Barret stuff but I loooovvvveee the wall and you don't need no education to know that it's one of the best albums every produced.

He brought the Pink Floyd sound in.. that psychadelic, what-is-going-on-with-the-music kind of thing in. No techno back in those days, no acid house, no stoner rock, metal~~

He was their first band leader, and his tripped out lyrics and self became Pink Floyd (wish you were here was dedicated to Syd). Anyways not all of his songs are great, but Interstellar Overdrive and Astronomy Domine are classics (Piper at the Gates of Dawn).

Piper at the Gates was the album I was referring to. I understand Wish You Were Here was dedicated to Syd.. I'm sure a lot of the Gilmour era music was. But Gilmour/Waters get credit for that music, not Barrett.

Different tastes I suppose.. I was just really unimpressed with Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

Meh. Floyd without Barrett wasn't anywhere near as great. But, the chances of Barrett ever playing again, let alone with Floyd, are about the same as the world ending in two seconds.

I hate to ask this of somebody that like Floyd, but what kind of drugs are you on? Syd only did 2 albums with Floyd, one of which was excellent, the other was mediocre at best. PF hit their stride after Barrett left and Roger Waters took over the artistic direction of the band. Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, The Wall and Animals were all pure Waters. What did Syd do to compare with that?

Methinks the drugs have addled your mind to the point where you can't tell Syd from Roger and you were really thinking that PF went downhill after Waters left and David Gilmour took over. If you TRULY think that PF with Barrett was greater than the Waters years you're the only person on earth that does.

Eh, you're entitled to your opinion, just as I am mine.

Personally, I don't think Wall was worth the tape it was recorded on. I think it's their least consistant album, and sounds half-assed. Secondly, I am not the only person on this earth that does prefer their first two albums. I know more then a few people with the same opinion.

The Wall was simply brilliant. Half-assed? It was a double album. That's not half-assed. That's double-assed. Like Oprah Winfrey. Dual asses.

So if I released a double album then it wouldn't be half-assed, even if it was garbage?

And I'm sorry, but Dark Side Of The Moon is a hundred times better than The Wall.
:Q
Wait a minute. Did you just call The Wall garbage????????????????????????????

I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like, It's got a basket, a bell that rings, and things to make it look good. I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

I really enjoyed the Barrett Pink Floyd albums, but I think that the later albums were much better. I think 99% of PF fans would agree with me. With that said, I could certainly respect your differing opinion if you said you preferred the Barrett albums. And I don't think anyone should call you an idiot because of that particular opinion. But your comment on The Wall definitely goes beyond the realm of sanity and earns you the title of IDIOT!!!

By the way, I'm also going to disagree with those who say DSOTM is better than The Wall. DSOTM is a collection of mostly great songs and a couple mediocre ones. The Wall is a complete story and a masterpiece. The two really can't be compared.

Any good deals in Dell Outlet right now?

Oh, and I got my tickets to see the Stones in Detroit, August 31. I'll have to settle for just watching Floyd on TV.

How much did you pay?

Late response, but....

A LOT....over $200 for 2 seats in the lower bowl. Stage will be in centerfield-ish, our seats are between home and 1st base. But I've never seen them, and even if they are old, I still should. Just because. As someone else noted in this thread, I also think I was born too late.

I was referring to Pink Floyd keeping up Syd's sound, having his influence. In music it's really easy to follow somebody, hard to create yourself. They definitely sounded different and nicer with Gilmour but Syd had his craziness that you can hear in PF's music that makes it so unique (IMHO).

And Interstellar Overdrive still fkkin rocks. You gotta think back in those days nobody would dare put on a 10 minute noise junk like that, only Syd Barrett.

Even if the concert featured the current Floyd w/o Waters, they'd still rock. Water's voice has gotten so rough over the last 20 years. Gilmour still plays and sounds like he has for the last 30 some years. Delicate Sound of Thunder is one of my all time favorites and by far my favorite live album and that's Floyd without Waters.

The last time I heard Roger Waters sound good was The Wall, and that was predominantly Roger Waters. But The Wall certainly isn't some of Pink Floyd's best work.

Did they ever say what you'd have to do to get tickets to any of these shows? Like someone said earlier, a Pink Floyd reunion would be cause for unprecidented scalping I'm sure.

I'd bet even a renuion tour would be $500+ per ticket. Thanks Ticketmaster and your backdoor deals with scalping agencies!

Actually I saw two shows during his "In the Flesh" tour, and I thought it all sounded great, two of the best concerts I've ever been to. I consider The Wall nothing less than pure brilliance, with Dark Side being the only album that I thoguht was better (although they were quite different, and not very comparable).

Ticketmaster blows like a crack whore on a saturday night.

I CAN"T WAIT for this!!!!! And of course, I'm going to the Red Sox game that day. I just may blow it off and sell my Sox tickets in order to watch this.

I'm seriously thinking of going to london that weekend (friday is a satutory holiday and I can probably get the monday off) just to see them.

if I can get a decent-priced ticket (like 300-400) I think I might do that...

nevermind...it seems none of us can really go

Tickets for the LIVE 8 London concert in Hyde Park will be allocated via a text competition. The competition is open to UK and Channel Islands' residents aged 16 or over.
