Ping problems...

Just built a new sys (MSIK8NNeoSlI + 1gigDCpc3200 + Ledtek6800THD 80gig Seagate cuda) This sys replaced the sys I built a month ago (AsusA8NSLI + 1gigDCpc3200 + Ledtek6800THD + 80gig Seagate) which my son bought. Everything seems to be running fine except the ping rate I am getting in the exact same game I played with Asus sys is higher with the new sys. Not sure what could be causing this. I am using the Marvell Lan Drivers. There are also Nvidia Ethernet Drivers that I didn't install because I was going to use the Marvell Drivers. Not sure what could be going on.

ping really has nothing to do w/ eithernet drivers if they are all functioning correctly. ping is your connection to the internet

Is there anything within the computer itself (excluding the connection to the internet) that can effect ping rate? If not, what would cause a cable connection that usually pinged very low, to the next day ping higher? Could it be as simple as rebooting the cable modem, or could the cable company being screwing with the signal?
