Ping is bad for Source games

When I show all the servers in my list, all the pings are really bad. most are 300+.

But when I refresh each server, the ping drops to below 100. It seems all the pings are below 100 when I get into them but show as 300+..

Any help?

Thats weird, are you behind a firewall or use a router? You could try to DMZ the game if that helps at all. If that continues I guess you could find the servers you like and just fave em. Ive narrowed down my fave servers on TF2 and only go to those now anyways.

Pinging lots of servers all at once will cause that with some NICs and/or routers.

That's the only option.

To ping all the servers or not.

And I do put up filters.

I am behind a firewall and router (vista's default firewall) and HL2.exe is a program I granted access for the firewall. I don't think this is the problem because if I bring up the server info in the popup box and hit refresh, the server usually drops down below 100.


And about 5% of the servers do show as below 100, so I;m at a loss.

i'm the same way. of course i have crappy dsl way out in the boondocks. usually if i click view server info it drops a little. but i only have a handful of servers that ping under 100.

i miss cable.

When i play i get a lot of servers under 100 ping thats weird
