I believe I have a problem with ping flooding and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to stop it. I have a cable modem that the activity light constantly blinks on even when the computer is down. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim

there was a similar post a couple of weeks ago, you can not prevent your computer from answering (that i know of) you can block the ip, but a ping will always come through. do a search maybe im on crack.

I have @home cable as well and have regular activity (a few times every hour usually). Most of it is just from the ISP or @home service itself. I wouldn't worry about it much. If it gets excessive, try speaking to your ISP's tech support.

i have activity blinking about once a a second and I called the tech support and he said that I may have someone ping flooding me but there was nothing they could do unless they could find out where it was originating from.

Racer,

You are worrying for the wrong reason.

The activity light blinks anytime anyone on your cable hub/loop is actively using the network.

The more it blinks the more people are using the bandwidth, if on the other hand the pc light its called PC LINK on my modem is also blinking you may be getting pinged.

Simple solution: Download Zonealarm which is a great free user friendly firewall which not fullproof can give you a bit piece of mind and even make your computer appear to be not "there" to unwelcome queries.

Goto this link and try it out:

Zonealarm

Have you tried resetting your cable modem?I have the same problem with @Home, except my activity light will stay on sometimes and powering it down and back on has worked for me.I have BlackIce and not getting any info, so it just might be activity on the loop.I spoke to ::....cough...cough:: tech support about it and they said we could try to replace it(the modem), but I would be with out service for 3-4 days because they have to reprogram the system. huh???😕
