pin missing in socket 754

I have an Athlon 64 socket 754 with one of the 4 inside corner pins missing. I put it in anyway and it appears to run fine. I can run prime 95 while playing Half-Life 2 with no problems. Is it possible that this pin may not be needed and how can I find out what this pin does?

 
It was probably just one of the many ground pins. If it runs perfectly fine then I wouldn't worry about it.
