That could easily be considered self-defense. They guy felt eminently in danger (and I think the camera proves that) and defended himself. Self-defense doesn't necessarily mean you have to been injured first.

as for the self-defense thing: some states regulate this so that if someone "violates your personal space" and you tell them to back off and they refuse, you are within the law to hit them. that's how I understand it anyway. we don't know if he warned the pimp, but I wouldn't hold it against him 🙂
