They should have pulled him aside told him he was a dumbass for making smart ass comments in these overeacting times and then fined him $500 or something.

<< talk about an overreaction, this pilot's life is now destroyed because he made a sarcastic comment and because 90% of the people in this world are god damn idiots. i heard on the local news that he said something to the effect of "why worry about tweezers, when i could crash the plane." i know its not the smartest thing to say, but to have charges brought against him and lose his pilot's liscence? that's just f**ing ridiculous. >>

What he said is 100% true, tweezers are not exactly a big problem since any pilot can crash the plane, he just stated a fact.

Bigdude,
you scare me, expecialy after your comment in this thread
<<I don't regret the deaths, of our enemy! I regret the fact that we haven't killed millions of people that are the enemy of the US!>>

If I scare you, then you must be a terrorist!

Hmm he deserves it.

Yes, sorry I missed it as I browsed the article. Then I agree this is way over reacting there is something wrong with this country if sh*t like this can occur.

I dunno if that story is incomplete but it only says he's getting 2 misdemeanor charges and it says nothing about his license. It's a bit much, but have a little faith that it would come out in the courtroom and a (hopefully) competant judge will tell him he's an idiot and let him get back to his life.

<< It's what you get with the idiots in Washington! We should be using racial profiling, if you are an Arab male, you will be searched, and a background check before you get on a plane, if you are Arab, and are upset about it, be upset at your comrades that started the war on terroism! >>

I know many of you view this as "racism" or a display of ignorance, but the point stands that the vast majority of these terrorists ARE IN FACT adult Arab males. Keeping a closer eye on people of this description may not please everyone, but its a lot less painful than having another major terrorist act take place because of indifference. Oh and for the records: i never said Arabs are bad. I am saying that the facts stand fairly clearly, and in a time of increased threat keeping a close eye on such individuals isn't that TERRIBLE of an idea...

Ben Franklin Speaks

Ben Franklin said it, so it must be true!

Tell me; are you actually losing THAT much liberty? Its not like i'm saying revoke their drivers liscenses and take their radios; all I said was keep a more watchful eye when in airports. If airport security was top notch to begin with, it wouldn't be needed to keep an eye on a specific group. But since airport security obviously can't do EVERYTHING right, it isn't really hurting anyone to simply be more aware of a current issue.

T.V. said it so it must be true!

am I the only one who thinks this guy is a total dumba** for even saying such a thing. It's a given that confiscating nail clippers is borderline absurd, but comon....what kind of idiot says "I have a loaded gun" at a security checkpoint these days?

I think its ridiculous. We have never had a problem with pilots However we have had hundreds of problems with the screeners and bagage handlers. The fact that the pilot thinks that the security is extremley bad just tells me that he isn't at fault but the airlines, government, and screeners are.

Sorry, but I can't have much sympathy for this pilot. This airport security stuff is damned serious! Even before the Sept. 11th attacks, every airport has a sign near the terminal saying something to the effect of "making jokes about bombs could get you arrested"

For someone who is supposed to instill some measure of confidence in his passengers to make the comments that he did was just poor judgement.

I don't think the guy should be fired, but he should be fined and severely reprimanded by US Airways.

Yeah, I am sure that everyone would be saying, "We all saw the signs... we should ahve known..." if he had crashed his planed later. While I admit that people need to be taken into context of what they say, there are some things that are just best kept to himself...

Who said everything Ben Franklin said was true?
This quote has a boatload of creedence, however.

<< Tell me; are you actually losing THAT much liberty? >>

I'm not losing jack. What color is your skin, though? Probably similar to mine. In which case you don't lose much either. Sure suck to be nonwhite and have to be subject to scrutiny every where you go.

<< Its not like i'm saying revoke their drivers liscenses and take their radios; all I said was keep a more watchful eye when in airports. >>

But only keep an eye on Arabs? That's the issue. It should either be like Israels El Al where everyone gets strip searched, or it should be no one.

<< If airport security was top notch to begin with, it wouldn't be needed to keep an eye on a specific group. >>

You just posed to solution--instead of making travel a PITA for anyone without white skin, why not fix the crap security?

<< But since airport security obviously can't do EVERYTHING right, it isn't really hurting anyone to simply be more aware of a current issue. >>

Oh, it's not? If you were someone of Arab descent, you wouldn't mind being tacitly accused of terrorism and subject to a battery of interrogation and searches just b/c you wanted to hop a flight somewhere, meanwhile white people get to go through without nary a sideward glance?

<< T.V. said it so it must be true! >>

Nice nonsequiter...what does TV have to do with anything?

riiiight... and I really proposed searches and interrogations... I meant AND I said simply keep a watchful eye... calm down dude.

But only keep an eye on Arabs? That's the issue. It should either be like Israels El Al where everyone gets strip searched, or it should be no one.

Is it really that logical to propose we search no one? Please think before you speak. That just doesn't make sense.

I'm not losing jack. What color is your skin, though? Probably similar to mine. In which case you don't lose much either. Sure suck to be nonwhite and have to be subject to scrutiny every where you go.

Please tell me where I proposed all Arabs be continually scrutinized? I did say, didn't I, all of what I said in the context of airports, didn't I? That IS what we're talking about, right? Oh and I never said anyone "notwhite;" thats simply white supremacy that you just referenced. I proposed heightened surveillance of a known terrorist group... that is all... no more no less... read what I write, please.

Who said everything Ben Franklin said was true?

You did when you simply linked to a site titled "Ben Franklin Speaks" with no further explanation... an implied all knowing quality
