Pillows are bad for your health

Roland Piquepaille writes "I guess we shouldn't be surprised by the fact that our pillows are miniature zoos containing millions of fungal spores, with some species able to cause diseases and even death. Researchers at the University of Manchester have studied the fungal contamination of our pillows for the first time in seventy years and discovered that these pillows were hot beds of fungal spores. After dissecting both feather and synthetic pillows in regular use between several months and 20 years, they've "identified several thousand spores of fungus per gram of used pillow -- more than a million spores per pillow."

i know this already. one way to help this (no joke) is to put them in a garbage bag in the freezer overnight.
this kills the bacteria and sanitizes the pillow

So WTF do you use to sleep on if you do this overnight?
That's the most retarded idea ever.
Maybe you should do it during the day...?

Why not do it during the day though? Why does everything have to be overnight when it's something you don't use during the day, but you do use overnight?!?!?!?

Why are we reposting trash from Roland Piquepaille? He's nothing more than a grubby little desk-jockey who's using Slashdot to redirect traffic to his ad-riddled blog.

Yea, but what's special about a pillow? Wouldn't the bed itself have a similar load? If the moisture from respiration has any effect, then removing the pillow would only move the fungal load to the mattress.

freezing bacteria doesn't kill it.

You took the article seriously.
That was a mistake.

Yeah, that's cool too. You just seemed overly outraged at the idea 😛

I can't speak for everybody, but I was my pillows roughly once a month. Plus they do have pillow cases, which are washed weekly. Usually, I purchase new pillows once a year.
