When scouting in sneak mode, does it use the highest mechanics for spying objects or your PC charactes? Ive noticed that it always says that my PC has spotted something, even when someone else has a higher mechanics

Is your PC by any chance in the first slot of the party? My PC's mechanics is the highest in the group, but I'm always being told Eder has spotted something, despite his 0 mechanics.

I think it just uses the party leader's name.

My understanding is perception determines what your characters spot in scout mode, and it is per-character, so it's best to put your highest perception characters on-point while scouting.

Mechanics just determines whether you can disarm a trap or pick a lock, not whether you can spot it.

I just scout with my rogue and leave the party a bit behind. When she spots a mob, she snipes it with her arbalest (sadly but correctly nerfed in the last patch) and goes back to the group.

Another update on Steam.

My Steam is downloading another 579mb patch or hotfix.

Checked their official forums,

We have hotfixed the problem with adventurer hall-created companions not being able to unlock doors or chests. This should work correctly now. Without getting into too much detail, it looks like adding and removing a companion in the Stronghold can cause its voice set to be stripped. This was causing a null reference exception when they tried to unlock items.

Games are supposed to be fun, not where you scrabble around in a 500 page included bestiary/encyclopedia to calculate DR on 6 different types of armour and 6 different companions taking account of AOE and buffs and talents and the right weapon damage and the right weapon set hoping a tree doesn't block your view and wondering why there are health potions and . . . . . 🙄

Sounds like fun to me...

Not trying to sound like a dick , but this statement speaks volumes!
Indeed.

It's always interesting how people are totally ok whoring themselves to the mainstream for this or that reason and then can accept that other people will stick with what they like and that (heresy!) they might even like something they don't.

LOL

Nope, mechanics determines what you find along with disarming and picking locks. Perception has nothing to do with it.

AFAIK, none of the stats do anything except what they list (ie add Fort/Reflex/etc).

Any good guides out there yet particularly on PC builds or how to level companions? I was sick yesterday so I broke down and got it (I knew I would eventually) but am unsure of how to build my pc and companions.

Do you have any ideas of your own for what type of characters you are considering using including character mechanics, personal aesthetics, and story interactions?

Might take a while before we start seeing build guides, but until then your best bet is places like the official forums. Below is the sub-forum for character builds:

Or you could try the subreddit for the game:

For my first playthrough I'm looking for something basic, either a tank or damage dealer. I found a Darkozzi Paladin build that looks like a good beginner class: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=416939844

I plan on using the story npc's and not any of my own so I'm looking for a class that would compliment them and tips on how best to level up the npc's since I'm not familiar with their classes' talents/spells.

I think first play though just stick with classes you like, remember companion wise you get the chance to have Paladin,Ranger,Priest,Fighter,Chanter,Druid,Cipher has permanent members of your group.

Looking back if I had to start again I would probably go with a rogue class ,max out mechanics for disarming, traps, locks etc and perception.

My Priest class is fun but personally sometimes I wish I had a pure rogue in my group(all the other classes are covered),at the moment making my ranger more rogue as she levels up.

Sure you can make your own companions but you miss out on the story for the NPC ones already in the game.

Do note Ciphers can play a bit like rogues too,ie equip dagger in each hand etc, they get focus buffs and damage that can mount up.

I started yesterday with a fired godlike Darkozzi Paladin. I heard you have to roleplay him more than other classes but so far haven't encountered any of those dialogue choices. I'll probably stick with him because the only other pc I was thinking of was a second line dps but I don't know the classes well enough to build him. My main worry is that when leveling up the npc's (particularly the wizard/priest) I don't pick the wrong spells or talents.

Did you turn the option on to see the reputation effects of your dialog choices? If you don't, the effects of a choice aren't shown in the dialog box - but they're still having an effect.

So no answers on the addons like the strategy guide - then what about the first expansion being offered for $20 if you buy now?

Steam users - how did you get the patch to update? I have it set to update automatically, but when I logged into steam today nothing downloaded.

Sometimes I have been able to get a game to update by trying to play it. I click Play and then it starts downloading the update for it.

define 'recommended'? The game plays perfectly well as it is, the addons like strategy guide are not needed, but for those who want it, they can get it. This is not like Mass Effect 3, where to get the 'real ending' you had to buy some expansion.
