PIII 850e, 128MB Ram: XP/2000 vs *nix?

I need to view PDF's, browse the internet and play MP3's through the headphone jack...that's the only needs. No office/word processing or other general stuff.

This will be for my garage to play music and look up/display car / home repair stuff while I am working and be disposable should I trash it 🙂

Thanks

Puppy Linu or Xubuntu. Go with the latter if you can spend lest than $20 and upgrade to 512MB. I am doing this for my Dell Inspiron 8000 - I have 256MB RAM and additional 256MB is just $10 or so on eBay.

Because there are better options?

yeah and I think I own the license to install it. SRSLY <2000 is not worth doing.

I am thinking slimming down XP Pro will work for me though.

PIII 850 with 512MB and a decent 60GB HD will be ok I think.

i ran XP on a 800 MHz Celeron Tablet with 256Mb RAM. i tweaked the hell out of the system to cut down the use of resources. at the end, it ran ok for web browsing and reading PDFs. however, with 128Mb, i suggest you use PuppyLinux.
