Hi! Well here is the scoop.... I currently have a Aopen millennium edition (very stable board) running a 550E at 800+ with a tom leufkins peltier/alpha copper heatsink/fan combo. (yep overkill)

I'm looking to get into something 1ghz or so...

Do you think I would have a good chance of getting there with the PIII 750 FCPGA (100mhz bus) at less than 1.8v?

That would only require bumping the FSB to 133.

Any input on success rates?

Thanks.

Seeing as Intel can't deliver any 1Ghz Coppermines I'd say the chances are pretty slim. Most cores seem to make it to 900+ Mhz, but few do 1Ghz + without extreme measures. Some won't do it at all. You'd be safer off going for a 700E@933EB IMO.

Thanks for the reply, I just might go for the PIII 700 FCPGA CBO stepping.

I have read a lot of folks getting those into the 933mhz-1ghz range (with extra cooling, I have all that gear.)

Can anyone offer an opinion on if I should go for a 900 althlon classic pro-mod'ed to 1ghz for $365 (would also have to buy a new MB) or the PIII CBO for $250 (would be able to use the very nice MB I have)?

Thoughts?

Thanks.
