PerryTexan,
OK, another fine mess you've gotten me into. I'm still trying to work my way out of the HP debacle.<GRIN> Being an HP buyer, I had no idea you wuz an overclocker.

So, how come you haven't started an overclocking 101 thread??

OK, I'll be using mine in Asus PB3-F or Abit BE-6. So, should be no problems with the right slotket.

Question--My brother is using a Celeron 366@457 (83 FSB). This Cel was purchased, guaranteed to do 457, but not 550. So, it had been culled out. It is not heat related, it simply won't do it. BUT, it is rock solid at 457. Now, this indicates to me that the peripherals will do 41.5, no problem....so, I'm guessing, with the right cpu, 124 or better is likely. RAM is Kingston CAS2 PC100, 8ns.

Does my assumption appear correct?

Hi, Randypj--

Yes, you're correct; if the cards are now doing 41.5 with the FSB at 83, then there should be no problem running another chip at 124MHz FSB, and having the PCI bus at the 41.5MHz speed.

How's things going with the HP debacle?

If you want to take advantage of the coupon, today (June 12th) is the last day you can use it! Also, the last time I checked, they had 246 in stock, and mine shipped on Friday!

Hi, Hellspawn--

Yes, there is a code to enter for the $20 off; I think the code is either mentioned within the replies to this post, or I know for a fact that it's in a couple other posts having to do with C4Sure.

They're down to 236 in stock! Take advantage of this coupon/rebate combo while you can--it works for ANYTHING at C4Sure, not just on this or my other post about the hard drive, and it isn't every day that you get $50 off of a $120 purchase!!

I got my Chip today!

It's not cB0 but I didn't really expect it.

I got a SL3T3 from the Philippines.

I also got my Platinum Live! today from the Buy.com offer, $134!

These both got here REALLY fast, I only ordered them yesterday.

Any other chips received? I keep reading from other members that despite what the page says it is out of stock. Now the page says 4600 in stock! What is going on? Could they have that many?(edit)My bad. The members that were having problems had ordered their cpu's from Onvia. Side-note... now Comp4sure's page says 5900 in stock. Ordered my 700 on 6/12 and recieved it today. Great. Now what happens?

I received a Pentium III 700E with SSpec code SL3T3 made in Philippines. I do not think this is a cBO stepping. The highest overclock speed of this process according to www.overclockers.com database is around 850-870.

I am going to find some way to swap this out with a SL45Y SSpec. I need 933MHz.

I finally got my processor in, and it's NOT the cB0 stepping; it has the SL3T3 code, which means it's the original stepping. I'm going to install it now, and see how far I can overclock it!! I'll be back with results!!

Well, it looks like the best I can do is 840MHz, which is kinda disappointing in light of the fact that I was getting 810 out of a 600E that this processor went into. But, at least it's stable. One other thing--the HS/Fan combo that came with this processor is SUBSTANTIALLY larger than any of the three previous Coppermine processors I've had. Maybe that will help keep it a little cooler, and after this one "burns in" for a day or two, maybe I can get a little more performance out of it.

Dear Gurus,
I want to upgrade my Abit Bx6 II motherboard with this chip. Will it work? Are there any other attachments that I'll need?
THANKS

Hey bebop I have the exact same MB! Yes you will need something else in order to get this chip working for your MB. Its called a "slotket". Its basically and adapter that plugs into the slot on your mb that the chip sits on. Abit makes a really great one too that's guaranteed to work with their MB's.

On a side note did anyone notice how freakin many of these there are in stock now!!! In Stock: 9468!!!
Thats a helluva lotta chips!

Got mine Wednesday. Pretty sorry CPU - unstable on 124 MHz bus at 1.75v. No cBO here. Pulled it yesterday and reinstalled my Celeron 533A. Oh well, one of them high rollers on "that auction site" will buy it, cause they'll buy anything. Didn't know the name was a "Forbidden word".

They have over 9k of these things.. I really doubt they will be able to move all of them that quickly.. I'm betting they will lower the price soon

C4S and Onvia are both shipping these from the same distributer, so far it looks like none of them are good overclockers (no cb0). Heh maybe I'll wait for the cC0 steppings now.

btw if you ordered from Onvia and are really disappointed they will accept a return.

When I looked at their website last night they claimed to have just over 9000 of these in stock. Methinks their online inventory system needs just a little work.

Got a 700 MHz/100 FC-PGA WITH cB0 stepping and retail boxed (BX80526F700256ESL45Y) from Googlegear today, $257.50 shipped with 2nd Day FedEx (you can save a buck going UPS ground).

Also got an ASUS S370-133 Slocket for $20 to put this in my Shopss PC with Luckystar/Boardrunner Ver. 3.1 motherboard.

I have been waiting for quite some time to find a cB0 stepping of Intel's Pentium III 700 Mhz Coppermine core. I tried PerryTexan's Computers4Sure deal. No luck, only cA2. But that's what on-line auctions are for. :)

On to the good news . . .

Many on-line websites did not have any in stock or could not confirm which stepping they had in their warehouses. Onvia, after being out-of-stock for some time, reported having retail boxes Pentium III 700 Mhz processors this weekend. I hoped that the long dry spell would indicate the end of the less overclocking-friendly cA2 stepping. So two days ago on Sunday night (June 18) I took my blind leap-of-faith. Today, on Tuesday, I received my processor. I opened the box and there was an SSpec SL45Y retail box cB0 Pentium III 700 MHz.

But this keeps getting better . . .

Onvia sells this with *free* shipping for $264.82. But until June 30, if you enter the coupon code 1571100 at time of order, you will get $25 off of a $200 purchase. New processor price: $239.82.

Then . . .

If you are willing to register with PointClick, you can get 10% cash back from selected merchants (via a check in the mail at the end of each month). Onvia is a PointClick merchant. Final processor price: $215.84. For a cB0 stepping Pentium III 700Mhz retail box - Wow!

I spoke with Onvia's customer service and confirmed receipt of a huge shipment from Intel. Hopefully, all of these are cB0 steppings. Best of luck to all who try and order.

Regards,
Brent
