Got a PIII 700 from Onvia. It was shipped from PA and is a cb0 - SL45Y Malay. Set it to 933 and it booted fine right into Windows at default voltage. No lockups on post or registry errors or freezes getting into Windows. I could immediately that I wasn't going to have to tweak the voltage much at all if any. After about a half hour of general surfing, email etc., Windows locked. Icreased the voltage to 1.7 and all is fine. 3DMark 2000 came in at 6802, aboout 350 points higher than with my PIII600e@800. I looped Q3 demo001, quaver and nv15demo for a half each with no problems.

Sweet so far. You know when you can just tell you got a good one? That's how I feel given that I had to almost nothing. Also as most of you know, more times than not after you run a brand new chip for a while with increased voltage, you can usually turn it down a notch in a month or so. Another good sign here is that my PIII 600e@800 ran at a cool 34C, which I was very happy with. This 700@933 is at 27C and this is with Radio Shack thermal compound on my orb.

Anyway, thought I would post this info for those thinking about the PIII 700.

I'm curious....what's your room temperature?

For me, it gets to around 90 degrees in my room during the afternoon...therefore, I can't push it up to 933 immediately. I'm currently at 889 Mhz and hopefully I'll get to 933 by next week.

Is it normal for this CPU to run at 40 deg C when the room temp is at 90 degrees F?

My room temperature is about 75F degrees. I have central air, but a few weeks ago, I turned it off during a party when the door was opening and closing all day and it was about 90 outside and at leat 85 inside and the temperature barely changed on my old CPU. 40 is not too bad, but not optimal. An orb and good case cooling is key.

I got a Abit VT6X4 Slot1 board last week and put my PIII650 on it. Replaced the PC100(ran at 124FSB= 806mhz). Today I replace the PC100 w/PC133 and when I change FSB to 140 (voltage at default 1.65)(to make 910mhz), It WILL post @910, but Windows refuses to load, it just freezes. My temp running the 650 @866(133FSB) is only 33 degrees C or 91 F. Would altering the voltage allow me to get my 140FSB? Any ideas would be appreciated. Email me at noel@noellucas.com if you want to. Thanks again.
