PII 300A overclocking

Alright could somebody that knows about these older chips give me some info. I know this slot A model overclocked pretty well. But since I started overclocking with a duron700, and wasn't really into computers back when my rents bought this system, I need some help from you. First of all what is the defualt voltage and fsb on this puppy. Also the multi is locked correct...and can't be unlocked.

That's all for right now but I'm sure I'll think of more.

I'm really hoping to get my little bro some more speed as he just inherited this computer, which will soon have a GF2 Pro in it hopefully.

I'm trying to figure out which processor you are talking about.

There is no Pentium II 300A.

There is a Celeron 300A.

Neither processors are Slot A.

I shall assume that you are talking about the Slot 1 Celeron 300A. The default voltage for this processor is 2.0 volts and runs on the 66MHz FSB. You should be able to reach 450MHz by changing the FSB to 100MHz. You may need a small voltage bump...anything up to 2.2 volts should be fine if you can't get to 450MHz stably at default voltage.

You cannot unlock the muliplier on Intel processors.

Since this is an old Intel CPU it's multiplier should be unlocked. If it is all you need is to perform the tape trick to get more voltage to the CPU and change the FSB from the motherboard.

Older Celerons/PII's are unlocked and you can change the multiplier in the BIOS. I believe Intel started to lock their CPU's back in the summer of 1998. Any earlier processors are fully unlocked for your pleasure.

ALL CELERONs are locked.

I KNOW when Intel started locking processors. I wrote a FAQ on it. Some Pentium II processors are unlocked or multiplier limited, but ALL Celerons are completely locked.

Yep agreed ,all Celerons are locked ,some PII's were not completely locked but even those you could only set a lower multiplier

If you have a PII 300 btw their were 2 varities of these ,one was the old Klamath core on 0.35u (I call them furnaces,they run damn hot!) ,these were right near thier limit as far as thier speed goes ,you might get those to 338MHz (4.5x75MHz) ,maybe 350 if your lucky (3.5x100).Their std voltage is 2.8v

The other PII 300 was a Dechutes core CPU ,same as the PII 350,400,450.If 1 of these had been fitted with the same L2 cache chips as the PII450 then you stood a very good chance of hitting 450MHz (4.5x100).Their std voltage is 2.0v.I remember 1 S code for the 'good' PII300's was SLW28
